Konan Reassigned to Adirondack

December 4, 2012 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Adirondack Phantoms News Release

The Adirondack Phantoms have announced a pair of roster moves according to Philadelphia Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren. The Flyers have reassigned defenseman Matt Konan to Adirondack from the Trenton Titans (ECHL). And Phantoms forward Matt Mangene has been reassigned to the Trenton Titans.

Matt Konan comes to the Phantoms after having played five games in the ECHL with Trenton where he had no goals and one assist. The 21-year-old from Tustin, Cal. began the season with the Phantoms but was not officially active on the roster. He was recovering from an off-season injury and was practicing with Adirondack for the first several weeks of the season. The rookie was assigned to Trenton when he was ready to play and he made his professional debut on November 23 for the Titans.

Konan is a big blueliner at 6'3" and 190 pounds. Last year, in his over-age season of Major Juniors with the Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Hockey League, he had a breakout season with a career-high nine goals and 45 assists for 54 points. Konan is a right-handed shooter and was signed by the Flyers this past summer.

Matt Mangene played in four games for Adirondack this season before receiving an upper-body injury on October 28 in a game at Syracuse. The speedy free agent out of the University of Maine has not seen any game action since that injury as he prepares to resume playing with Trenton. Mangene signed with the Flyers in April, 2012 and immediately joined the Phantoms playing in five games in the last two weeks of the regular season.

Mangene is a 23-year-old from Manorville, NY on Long Island and had 16 goals in 40 games for the Black Bears last season. He had spent time as both a wing and a defenseman in college but has been used exclusively as a forward in his brief time in the pros. His sister, Meagan, has played in a couple of Frozen Fours with the Boston College women's team. His grandfather, Robert "Red" Mangene, played football at Boston College helping lead the Golden Eagles to the 1942 Orange Bowl against Alabama.
