Komets Stop Mallards

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (February 6, 2016) - Troy Bourke and Alex Belzile provided a goal and an assist apiece and Pat Nagle made 30 saves as the host Fort Wayne Komets (27-14-2) defeated the Quad City Mallards (21-20-5) Saturday night.

The loss halted the Mallards' four-game regulation unbeaten streak and leaves Quad City tied for third place in the ECHL's Midwest Division.

Bourke finished off a 2-on-1 rush to open the scoring at 9:52 of the first period. The Komets emerged from the first still in front 1-0 thanks to a standout effort from Nagle, who stopped 16 shots in the opening 20 minutes.

Belzile doubled the Fort Wayne advantage by burying a rebound at 11:08 of the second period.

The Mallards cut the gap to 2-1 when Brady Brassart converted Kevin Henderson's centering feed at 17:09 of the second.

The Komets' Mike Embach scored an insurance goal from the slot on another 2-on-1 at 9:37 of the third period

The Mallards return to action on the road next Friday night against the Tulsa Oilers. The Mallards next play at home Friday, February 19 at 7:05 p.m. against the Cincinnati Cyclones. February 19 also brings the return of $1 Dog/$1 Beer Night presented by 97X and MetroLINK College Night.
