Komets Head West to Arizona; Face Sundogs for Pair Friday and Sunday

Fort Wayne, IN -- Th e Komets took a split of back-to-back home games against Tulsa last Friday and Saturday and then completed the week with a 4-1 victory in Quad City Sunday.

The Komets (24-12-2, 50 points) are fighting to hold first place in the Turner Conference, sharing the lead with rival Evansville. The IceMen host Dayton Thursday night.

This weekend the Komets head west to face the Sundogs (12-21-7, 31 points) in Arizona Friday and Saturday with both games starting at 9:05 pm ET. The Komets split a pair of games at Arizona last year when they made the trip at the start of the season (1-0-1). This weekend will be the first meetings of the season. The season series will be completed when Arizona visits Fort Wayne Feb. 24. While the Komets are idle this week before making the trip to Arizona, the Sundogs have been busy dropping a 2-0 shutout at Allen Tuesday and suffering an 8-4 setback Wednesday night at Wichita to extend their winless streak to five games (0-4-1).

Komets IR update -- Komet center Brett Smith is making the trip to Arizona with the team and may be activated while the Komets are at Arizona. Center Leo Thomas has been placed on leave of absence. Defenseman Dustin Molle and goaltender Alex Kangas remain on I.R.

Next at home -- The Komets are out of town this weekend to make way for the Shrine Circus at the Coliseum. After the trip to Arizona, the Komets will skate at Quad City next Friday, Feb. 3 before returning home to host the Dayton Gems Saturday, Feb. 4 at 7:30pm.

INC Soundoff with the Komets Monday nights -- The Komets, I ndiana's News Center and title sponsor PHP present a live weekly televised sports program on Monday nights at 7:30 on WPTA TV 21 Alive. The half-hour show is televised live from Wrigley Field Bar and Grill each week with INC's Tommy Schoegler as host and will feature highlights, interviews and call-ins as Komet players and personnel serve as co-hosts.

MONDAY, Jan. 30, Komet forwards Jesse Bennefield and Bobby Chaumont will be special guests.
