KOKOMO, IND. - The 2017 edition of The Battle for State Highway 26 resumes at Kokomo Municipal Stadium Tuesday and Wednesday June 6 and 7. The Jackrabbits, looking to snap a three-game skid, sport a 2-4 record in the Prospect League's first half, while the visiting Lafayette Aviators are 3-3. Game times are 6:35 p.m. each evening. Following the home set against Lafayette, manager Gary McClure and the Jackrabbits take to the road for one of the club's longest trips of the season, playing seven of the next eight away from Kokomo Municipal Stadium.
The season series against the Aviators is split at one win apiece. Kokomo claimed a 5-3 win at home June 1 and then dropped a 4-1 final at Loeb Stadium the following evening.
LAFAYETTE GAME PROMOTIONS: The second $2 Tuesday and Family Wednesday events of the year are on the docket. Upon entry into KMS, fans can purchase soda, hot dogs, burgers and beer for $2 each Tuesday, while $20 gets individuals two dugout reserve seats, two hot dogs and two sodas Wednesday.
THE BULLPEN ... A BEAUTIFUL THING: Fans of the Jackrabbits have witnessed this first hand through six games. Josh Konecek and Quintin Miller are among the PL's top 10 in strikeouts (10 each); Ryne Underwood is the league leader in saves garnering two and has yet to surrender a run in three outings that have totaled three innings; and Trey Bickel hasn't been touched for an earned run over five and a third frames and has seven punch outs to his credit.
Mike Anthony and Will Freeman have nearly equaled his staff teammates as starters. Anthony struck out 11 and didn't allow a visiting score in his lone opportunity, while Freeman's opening night performance helped guide him into the league lead in strikeouts (15).
KOKOMO "O": Turning attention to the offensive side of the PL statistics, Collin Butkiewicz is among a large group of players tied for fifth in doubles (two) and the trio of Luke Fegen, Imani Willis and J.T. Conti are among only 20 individuals who have tripled during the young season.
ROAD WARRIORS: The first part of the coming "circus trip" takes the Brown and Gold to Eastern Division leading Chillicothe Thursday and Friday, June 8 and 9, and defending league champion West Virginia Saturday and Sunday, June 10 and 11.
