Knights Power Past Bisons 8-7 Sunday

Team Welcomes Third Consecutive Sell-Out Crowd to BB&T Ballpark

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- In front of a sell-out crowd of 10,210 fans, the Charlotte Knights staged an impressive 8-7 comeback victory over the Buffalo Bisons on Sunday in game three of their four-game series from BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte. Danny Hayes and Nicky Delmonico each homered to help lead the Knights to their first win against the Bisons this season.

Down by a score of 7-4, the Knights broke out their bats in the bottom of the seventh inning with four runs to take the 8-7 lead over the Bisons. Charlotte's come-from-behind win was helped by two mainstays in the lineup, Hayes and Delmonico.

Hayes first ignited the offense in the sixth inning as he launched his 11th home run of the season. One inning later, Delmonico roped a two-run home run to pull the Knights to within one run, 7-6. Catcher Carson Blair followed with an RBI double to tie the game at 7-7. Hayes continued his offensive assault on International League pitching and propelled the Knights to an 8-7 lead with an RBI single, which proved to be the game winning hit.

RHP Max Beatty (1-0, 0.00), who was called up from High-A Winston-Salem earlier in the day, made his Triple-A debut in Sunday's game out of the bullpen. Beatty, 26, gave up just two hits over 2.2 scoreless innings pitched to earn the win. LHP Brian Clark retired the final two batters in the ninth inning to earn his first save of the season.

Delmonico, Hayes, Rymer Liriano, and Jose Vinicio had two hits apiece for the Knights, who earned their 24th win of the season. RHP Carson Fulmer started for the Knights and allowed six runs on seven hits over three innings of work. He struck out four batters and did not factor in the decision.

Toronto Blue Jays LHP Francisco Liriano started the game for the Buffalo Bisons on a major league rehab assignment and allowed three runs on three hits over 4.1 innings pitched. He walked two and struck out seven.

Before the game on Sunday, the Knights inducted team owner, Don Beaver, into the Charlotte Baseball Round Table of Honor. Beaver accepted his plaque on the field before the game and threw out the game's ceremonial first pitch. He was joined by members of his family and Knights Chief Operating Officer, Dan Rajkowski.

The Knights will conclude their four-game series on Monday and host the Bisons in the finale from BB&T Ballpark at 2:05 p.m. Pre-game radio coverage of Monday's game will begin at 1:50 p.m. on ESPN Charlotte (730 AM) and CharlotteKnights.com. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and Knights radio broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action.
