June 17, 2011 - International League (IL) - Charlotte Knights
FORT MILL, S.C. - Charlotte Knights pitching coach Richard Dotson has been chosen as a member of the coaching staff of the 2011 International League Triple-A All-Star Game. Dotson is in his fourth season as pitching coach with the Charlotte Knights and 10th overall in the Chicago White Sox system.
"It's an honor and a privilege to be named the pitching coach of the International League All-Star team," Dotson said. "I look forward to working with some fine players who hopefully will become major leaguers in the near future."
Dotson is the third different Knights pitching coach named to coach an All-Star team. Former Knights pitching coaches Kirk Champion coached the I.L. All-Stars in 2001 and Juan Nieves coached the World Team in the Major League Baseball Futures Game in 2006.
Dotson, 52, played 12 major league seasons with the White Sox, New York Yankees, and Kansas City Royals. He pitched for the White Sox for much of his playing career, where he was named an American League All-Star in 1984.
"We are very excited to have Richard Dotson represent our organization in the Triple-A All-Star Game," Knights Vice President/General Manager Dan Rajkowski said.
"Richard has done an excellent developing our pitching staffs the past four seasons. This is a well deserved honor for him and a credit to how dedicated he has been to his job," Rajkowski said.
Columbus Clippers' manager Mike Sarbaugh will lead the I.L. staff, coached by Doston and Dean Treanor of the Indianapolis Indians. Gwinnett's Mike Graus fills out the squad as the All-Star trainer.
