Charlotte Knights News Release

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- RHP Lucas Giolito struck-out seven batters over five shutout innings, but the Charlotte Knights fell to the Gwinnett Braves on Saturday by a score of 2-0 from BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte. The Knights welcomed a sell-out crowd of 10,363 fans through the gates. It was the team's 20th sell-out crowd of the season.

Giolito allowed just four hits and two walks over five impressive innings, but did not factor in the decision. The 23-year-old right-hander tossed 101 pitches (65 for strikes) and left the game with both clubs scoreless. Things changed in the top of the sixth inning.

RHP Connor Walsh (0-1, 6.00) started the sixth inning and ran into trouble for the Knights. Walsh ultimately gave up a two-run double to former Charlotte second baseman Micah Johnson, which gave Gwinnett a 2-0 lead at that point. It was all the G-Braves needed to earn the game two victory.

Gwinnett LHP Andrew Albers (11-3, 2.72) gave up just five hits over eight shutout innings to earn the win. He struck-out a game-high 10 batters. Reliever Evan Phillips shut the door on Charlotte's comeback attempt in the bottom of the ninth to earn his first save of the season.

The Knights tallied five hits on Saturday and outfielder Jacob May led the way offensively with a two-hit game. May went 2-for-4 with a triple and his team-high 21st stolen base of the season. Relievers Matt Purke (1.0 IP), Al Alburquerque (1.0 IP), and Danny Farquhar (1.0) combined to hold the G-Braves scoreless over the final three frames.
