Knights Charge Past the Bulls

(DURHAM, NC) -- The Charlotte Knights used a nine-run eighth inning to beat the Durham Bulls by a score of 11-7 on Thursday in the finale of their three-game series from Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, NC. The Bulls battled back in the ninth inning and brought the tying run to the on-deck circle, but the Knights held on for a thrilling come-from-behind victory on Thursday.
Down by a score of 4-0 in the eighth inning, the Knights began to mount a comeback. The bats quickly came alive after going scoreless over the first seven innings. In fact, the Knights were held without a base-runner over the first five. Outfielder Jacob May broke up the perfect game in the top of the sixth inning with a single. Two innings later, every batter in Charlotte's order reached base in the eighth inning.
The Knights bashed seven hits in the nine-run inning to go ahead of the Bulls by a score of 9-4. The big inning was highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Tyler Saladino, who continued his rehab assignment. The Chicago White Sox infielder went 1-for-4 with two runs scored, the home run, a walk, and three RBIs. Infielder Tyler Ladendorf had two doubles and three RBIs in the eighth inning. He finished the game 2-for-4 with one run scored, two doubles, and three RBIs.
Charlotte RHP Bobby Parnell (2-1, 8.68) earned the win out of the bullpen. Parnell, a Salisbury, NC native, gave up one run and struck out two batters in the seventh inning for the Knights. White Sox RHP Miguel Gonzalez made a rehab start on Thursday and allowed three runs on seven hits over 4.2 innings pitched. The 33-year-old right-handed pitcher threw 72 pitches (47 for strikes).
Durham RHP Austin Pruitt started the game and was sharp over four innings. Pruitt threw four perfect innings and fanned nine batters. Durham RHP Diego Castilla (0-1, 5.29) failed to record an out in the eighth inning. He gave up six runs on five hits and was charged with the loss.
Charlotte tacked on two insurance runs in the ninth inning when Ronald Bueno hit a key two-run double. With the Knights now ahead by a score of 11-4, the team handed the ball to LHP Colton Turner in the ninth. Turner gave up three runs in the inning, but battled back to strike-out Mike Marjama with two runners on base to end the game.
