Knighthawks to Battle Black Wolves Sunday
The Rochester Knighthawks and New England Black Wolves will meet for the second time in nine days when they face off at Mohegan Sun Arena on Sunday, Jan. 21 at 1:00 p.m.
The last time they met, the Black Wolves held on for a 9-8 victory Saturday night in Rochester. The Knighthawks rallied for two late goals, but had their last-second shot attempt blocked. It was Cody Jamieson's penalty-shot goal with 20 seconds left that set the stage for the exciting final possession. Jamieson powered the offense with a six-point effort (2+4), while Joe Resetarits finished with four points (2+2).
This weekend, the Knighthawks will try to even the season series at one win apiece. Rochester (2-3) enters the contest in a three-way tie for third place in the East Division with Georgia and Buffalo. New England (3-1), who has won two straight, leads the division by one half game over the Toronto Rock (3-2).

Scouting the Knighthawks: After starting the season 2-0, the Knighthawks will try to get back in the win column in New England. In the pair of games this past weekend, Rochester was led by Cody Jamieson's four goals and eight assists. "Jammer" is now second on the team with 25 points, trailing only Joe Resetarits (26). Scott Campbell continues to leads all NLL defensemen with 10 points on three goals and seven assists. Goalie Matt Vinc is second in the league in saves (181) and save percentage (.801). Rookie Jake Withers leads the NLL with a .671 faceoff winning percentage after a dominating 12-of-14 performance Saturday. Fellow rookie and Ohio State product Austin Shanks also was impressive last weekend. In his first two professional games, he scored three goals and added one assist. First-year defenseman Eric Shewell also got into his first action and collected one assist and five loose balls.
'Special' Teams: Rochester leads the NLL in penalty-killing efficiency (72 percent) and is second in power-play effectiveness (60 percent).
- Dan Dawson (132) is three goals away from passing Curt Malawsky for 10th on the team's all-time goal-scoring list. - Dawson is also seven points away from 1,300 in his career. - Matt Vinc is 30 minutes away from passing Pat O'Toole for third all-time in minutes played in league history. Vinc has currently played 10,253 minutes. - Broadcaster Craig "Ripper" Rybczynski will call his league-record 300th straight broadcast Sunday.
Scouting the Black Wolves: New England has won two straight games after edging the Knighthawks on Saturday. Stephan Leblanc (2+4) and Shawn Evans (1+5) led the offense with six-point efforts, while Aaron Bold posted a season-high 48 saves. Evans now has a team-high 26 points. This season, the Black Wolves are 2-0 on their home turf.
Next Game: The Knighthawks, in conjunction with Veterans Outreach Center (VOC), RECON Rings, Tango Charlie Apparel and Isaac Heating & Air Conditioning, will hold their fourth annual Military Appreciation Night on Saturday, Feb. 3. The Knighthawks will honor our men and women in uniform that evening when they host the Buffalo Bandits at 7:30 p.m. at Connors & Ferris Field at The Blue Cross Arena. In appreciation of our armed forces, all military members, veterans, and reservists are able to receive one complimentary ticket to the game.
For the second straight season, the Knighthawks and Bandits players will wear special military-themed jerseys, which will be auctioned off with the net proceeds going to Veterans Outreach Center. The Knighthawks will also donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of special military-themed T-shirts and sweatshirts to VOC.
Last season, the Knighthawks Charitable Foundation donated a record $17,500 to VOC, shattering the previous mark of $7,460.31 raised in 2016.
