Knighthawks Sign VanEvery

October 4, 2012 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) - Rochester Knighthawks News Release

The Rochester Knighthawks announced the signing of transition man Torrey VanEvery to a one-year deal. VanEvery had an impressive showing at the National Lacrosse League Combine on Sunday. The 21-year-old scored five goals during the NLL's showcase event for free agents and draft eligible players.

"It feels great," said VanEvery about signing with his favorite NLL team. "It is a dream come true."

VanEvery recently played with Knighthawks star Johnny Powless on the Frog Pond Maulers in the 2012 Nations Cup. VanEvery will join the Knighthawks at the team's Open Tryouts, which is scheduled for Friday, October 26th and Saturday, October 27th at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Hagersville, Ontario.

The 6-3, 200-pound VanEvery will try out for the 2012 NLL Champions on the same floor where he played his junior lacrosse. With the Six Nations Rebels, he won back-to-back Founders Cups from 2007 to 2008. In his four-year Junior "B" career, he scored 52 goals and added 78 assists for 130 points in 56 games. In 2011, VanEvery was promoted to the Junior "A" level and responded with 15 goals and 29 assists in just 19 games. In 2012, he played Senior "B" lacrosse in the Can-Am league with the Six Nations Slash.

This past year, VanEvery also played professional lacrosse and won the inaugural CLax Championship with the Ohsweken Demons. The Six Nations product finished fifth on the team in points, while playing alongside 2012 Knighthawks draft pick Chris Attwood, former Knighthawks star Cory Bomberry and former NLL No. 1 overall pick Delby Powless.

Rochester will begin its title defense on the road to open the 2013 season. The World Champions will open their 19th season against the Washington Stealth at 10:00 p.m. (EST) on Saturday, January 5th. The Knighthawks will play their home opener on Saturday, January 19th against the rival Buffalo Bandits at 7:30 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena. Season tickets are currently on sale at the Knighthawks Office and can be purchased by calling (585) 454-HAWK (4295).
