Rochester Knighthawks News Release

The Rochester Knighthawks announced that they have brought back Ty Thompson. The crafty forward, who began the season with the Knighthawks, returns to the team after signing a contract today.

"I think the time off definitely gave me a chance to recharge my batteries," he said. "But more importantly, it allowed me to refocus on how I could help the team if I got the call up again."

Thompson made his professional debut on February 19th with Rochester in Saskatchewan. It was the opportunity of a lifetime for a kid who grew up cheering for the Knighthawks. There he was in Saskatoon, playing on an offense with the likes of Cody Jamieson and Dan Dawson.

"It's been a dream of mine since I was a kid," said Thompson. "It was a special moment to take the floor in a Knighthawks jersey and play alongside players I used to idolize."

Thompson first joined the Knighthawks on October 19th, when he signed a one-year free agent deal. The product of Akwesasne is a former third-round selection. He was drafted by the New England Black Wolves after having an incredible four-year run at the University at Albany. With the Great Danes, he posted 154 goals and 41 assists for 195 points, and was a two-time All-American.

"Ty is a big body who has a nice touch inside and a good shot," said Knighthawks forward Cody Jamieson. "He moves well and can open up space for others and for himself."

"I hope to settle into my role on the left side of the offense," added Thompson. "I hope to utilize my scoring touch, which I know I'm capable of."

Rochester has the weekend off before returning to action against the Buffalo Bandits on Saturday, April 9th. Thompson will practice with the team several times prior to the team's next game. The 24-year-old cannot wait to get back out on the turf with the Knighthawks.

"I will enjoy the opportunity the organization has given me late in the season," he said. "I will definitely embrace the moment and try to take advantage of the second chance."
