Knighthawks Have Two First-Round Selections in 2016 Draft

July 22, 2016 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release

For the second straight year, the Rochester Knighthawks will have two first-round picks in the National Lacrosse League Entry Draft. The Knighthawks currently hold the sixth and seventh overall picks in this year's draft.

Rochester is one of three teams with multiple first-round selections. The Saskatchewan Rush hold the first overall pick, along with two more first-rounders at third and ninth overall. The Georgia Swarm own three picks in the first round at fourth, eighth and 10th overall, while the Rochester Knighthawks will draft back-to-back in the sixth and seventh spots. The Toronto Rock own the second pick and the Calgary Roughnecks hold the fifth overall selection to round out the first round.

The Knighthawks moved into the sixth spot in this year's draft as a result of a 2012 trade with the Philadelphia Wings, who later became the New England Black Wolves. In that blockbuster deal, Rochester acquired Dan and Paul Dawson. Rochester will also pick seventh overall this year due to the 2015 trade that sent Jeremy Noble to Colorado.

At the 2016 NLL Entry Draft, Rochester has six picks, which also includes the 29th, 34th, 43rd and 51st selections, matching the number of picks the franchise had last year. It was just a year ago that Rochester selected Graeme Hossack second overall and followed that up by taking Brad Gillies with the ninth overall pick. The two first-rounders were part of a huge haul of talent, which also included second-round choices Derek Searle (14th overall) and Adam Bomberry (16th overall).

Information regarding the 2016 NLL Draft and Combine (including eligibility and registration information) will be announced in the coming weeks with more details forthcoming.
