Knighthawks Activate Goodleaf

Rochester Knighthawks News Release

The Rochester Knighthawks have activated goalie Angus Goodleaf, as the team prepares for a two-game in three-night stretch against the Toronto Rock. The veteran netminder will begin his seventh season tonight, when the Knighthawks play the Toronto Rock at the Air Canada Centre.

"I've been waiting too long to get cleared to go," he said. "I couldn't watch another practice or game."

The 28-year-old is entering his fourth season in Rochester after joining the team as a free agent in 2013. In his Knighthawks career, "Gussy" has posted a 4-1 record, a 7.27 goals-against average and an impressive .836 save percentage. He also won back-to-back Champion's Cups from 2013-14. It's safe to say that Goodleaf has enjoyed his time with the organization.

"I love being a part of this team," he said.

His finest season in teal and purple was in 2014, when he recorded a franchise-best .840 save percentage to go along with a 2-1 record and a 7.08 goals-against average. Last season, he teamed up with Matt Vinc to allow 173 goals, which was the fewest goals against in the National Lacrosse League.

"He is the ideal teammate and goalie partner," said Vinc. "He always has a smile on his face and is a positive and calming influence in the locker room. This year, he opened a lot of people's eyes in the lacrosse world with his exceptional play at the World Championships."

This summer, after leading the Six Nations Rivermen to a President's Cup title, the Kahnawake (Mohawk Nation) product excelled on the international stage. Behind his impressive goaltending, Goodleaf led the Iroquois Nationals to a silver medal at the 2015 FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championship. He finished the tournament with a 4-2 record and a .779 save percentage and was in the running for All-World Goalie honors.

"Familiarity and experience is the biggest factor with 'Gussy'," said Knighthawks head coach Mike Hasen. "He is a fierce competitor and we know exactly what he is going to bring to the floor.

Goodleaf and the Knighthawks will battle Toronto tonight before returning home to meet the Rock on Saturday, Jan. 16th at 7:30 at Connors & Ferris Field at The Blue Cross Arena.

"After the game against Colorado this past weekend, the home and home with Toronto makes it a bit more important weekend for both teams," said Goodleaf.
