Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Andrew Knapp's go-ahead RBI single with two outs in the top of the 10th lifted the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (40-31) to a 5-4 win over the Norfolk Tides (26-45) in 10 innings on Monday night at Harbor Park.
In the afore-mentioned top of the 10th, J.P. Crawford (2-5, 2 R) led off with a single, advanced to second on the play on an error charged to Norfolk CF L.J. Hoes and later scored on Knapp's single to give the Pigs the 5-4 lead.
RHP Frank Herrmann (1.0 IP, BB) earned the win for the IronPigs to improve to 4-1 on the season. RHP Edward Mujica (1.0 IP, 2 K) tossed a scoreless 10th to notch his league-leading 16th save of the year.
LHP Zach Phillips (1.0 IP, H, 1 R, 0 ER, BB, K) was dealt the loss for the Tides and drops to 5-3 on the year.
In the top of the second, solo shots from Darin Ruf (3-5, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, R) and Darnell Sweeney off of Tides starter T.J. McFarland opened up a 2-0 lead for the IronPigs. The home run was Ruf's eighth of the year and Sweeney's fourth.
McFarland (n/d) gave up the four runs on eight hits while walking one and fanning one over five plus innings of work.
Norfolk cut the lead to 2-1 with a run in the home half of the frame when Audry Perez drew a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a single, went to third on a groundout and scored on Michael Almanzar's RBI single.
Hoes' two-run single in the bottom of the fifth gave Norfolk a 3-2 lead.
IronPigs starter Anthony Vasquez (n/d) allowed the three runs on seven hits to go along with a walk and three strikeouts in 6.0 IP.
In a two-run sixth that gave Lehigh Valley the lead for the time being, Crawford led off with a single and scored from first on Nick Williams' RBI double to tie things at three before Williams scored on Ruf's RBI double to give the Pigs a 4-3 advantage.
Norfolk tied it at four apiece with a run in the eighth as Corban Joseph drew a two-out walk issued by RHP Luis Garcia (1.0 IP, H, R, ER, BB, K) and scored on Ozzie Martinez's RBI triple.
LHP Mario Hollands (1.0 IP, BB) had a scoreless outing in relief for manager Dave Brundage's squad.
Cam Perkins (3-5, 2B, SB) also had a multi-hit game for Lehigh Valley.
