Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - The Los Angeles Kings, the parent club of the Manchester Monarchs, have assigned forward Teddy Purcell to the Monarchs , Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today. In addition, the Monarchs have signed goaltender Rick Laurendeau to a professional tryout agreement (under emergency condition), Monarchs Director of Hockey Operation Hubie McDonough announced today.
Purcell, 22, has played in 10 games with the Kings this season and has three points (1-2=3). He made his Kings/NHL debut at Edmonton on January 15 and scored his first career NHL goal February 15 vs. Calgary. With the Monarchs, Purcell leads the team in scoring (58 points) and assists (42), and both totals also rank first among AHL rookies. His 58 points are tied for fifth overall in the AHL, while his 42 assists are tied for fourth. The 6-foot-3, 177-pounder was named MVP of the AHL's All-Star Classic on January 28, 2008, after collecting a hat trick during regulation play and then scoring the decisive goal in a shootout to give the Canadian AHL All-Stars the win. Purcell was also named AHL Rookie of the Month for November after recording 17 points (5-12=17) in 12 games. Purcell, who signed with the Kings as an unrestricted free agent on April 27, 2007, is a native of St. John's, Newfoundland.
Laurendeau, a native of Manchester, New Hampshire, will serve as the Monarchs back-up goaltender tonight when the squad takes on the Devils. Laurendeau, a 5-foot-9, 175-pounder who played college hockey at Plymouth State College, will serve as the back-up following the trade of goaltender Jean-Sebastien Aubin to Anaheim earlier in the day.
The Monarchs host the Lowell Devils on Tuesday, February 26 at 7:05 p.m. for Max's Birthday at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
