Manchester Monarchs News Release

LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Kings, the parent club of the Manchester Monarchs, have acquired defenseman Robyn Regehr from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for the Kings' second-round draft choice in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft and the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced tonight.

The trade is contingent on Regehr passing a medical exam. In addition, Kings forward Dustin Penner has been placed on the injured reserve list (retroactive to March 31) due to a lower body injury.

"We will withhold comment on the trade until after the medical exam is completed," said Lombardi.

Regehr, 32, has played in 29 games for the Sabres this year and has two assists and 21 penalty minutes. In 931 career regular season NHL games he has 170 points (30-140170) and 879 penalty minutes with Buffalo and Calgary.

This was Regehr's second season with the Sabres. He made his NHL debut with Calgary during the 2000-01 season and played 11 seasons overall with the Flames. The 6-foot-3, 225-pounder was originally selected by Colorado in the first-round (19th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft before being traded to Calgary during the 1998-99 season while playing in Kamloops of the Western Hockey League. During that same 1998-99 season, Regehr represented Canada at the 1999 World Junior Championship, winning a silver medal (7 GP, 0-0-0; 2 PIM) for the host country as the tournament took place in Manitoba.

Regehr made his NHL debut with Calgary during the 1999-00 season.

Regehr - who was born in Brazil -- has also played in 41 career postseason games, including 26 with the Calgary Flames during the 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs when that team, coached by Darryl Sutter, advanced to the Stanley Cup Final. His career postseason numbers: 15 points (3-1215), 28 penalty minutes and a plus-9 rating.

In addition to the silver medal, he earned at the 1999 World Junior Championship, Regehr also won a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2004 World Cup of Hockey and a silver medal with Team Canada at the 2005 World Championship in Austria.

The Monarchs return home to take on the Portland Pirates at the Verizon Wireless Arena for the 12th and final VIP Cup match-up of the season on Friday, April 5 at 7:00 p.m. Catch all the play-by-play action of Monarchs hockey with Ken Cail on the Monarchs Radio Network WGIR 610 AM, WGIR.com and at www.manchestermonarchs.com, presented by Manchester-Boston Regional Airport.
