King & The Captain among AHL Canadian All-Stars

Today, the Manitoba Moose, in conjunction with the American Hockey League announced Manitoba Moose forward Jason King and defenceman Nolan Baumgartner have been named to the Canadian AHL All-Star team for the 2005 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic to be held February 13th & 14th, 2005 at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, NH.

Baumgartner, 28, is Manitoba’s team captain. In 43 games this season with the Moose, he has collected six goals and 17 assists for 23 points, along with 24 penalty minutes. The Calgary, AB native is currently tied for 10th in scoring amongst defenceman in the AHL. His six powerplay goals are also tied for the most in the league amongst rearguards. In 157 career games as a Moose since 2002, Baumgartner has 20 goals and 89 points, along with 207 penalty minutes. In 483 career AHL games with Manitoba, Wilkes-Barre, Norfolk, and Portland, Baumgartner has 49 goals and 228 points with 546 penalty minutes. He has also played in 48 career NHL games with Vancouver, Pittsburgh, Chicago, and Washington. Since 1996, Baumgartner has one NHL goal and eight points. He was originally the Capitals’ first choice, 10th overall, in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. This will be Baumgartner’s first AHL All-Star Game.

King, 23, is currently tied for 16th in the AHL in scoring with a team-high 21 goals and 21 assists for 42 points. That is second in team scoring through 43 games this season. King was named the league’s Player of the Week back on Oct. 18/04 after scoring seven goals and two assists for nine points in Manitoba’s first four games of the season. In 139 career games with the Moose over the last three seasons, the Corner Brook, NF native has 53 goals and 105 points, along with just 41 penalty minutes. In 55 games last season with the Vancouver Canucks, King collected 12 goals and 23 points. King was Vancouver’s fifth choice, 212th overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
