San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO - The newcomers did it again for the San Diego Gulls on Saturday night. Forwards Dan DaSilva and Alex Kim scored two goals apiece, leading San Diego past the Stockton Thunder 5-3 before 6,473 at the ipayOne Center.
The result gave the Gulls (7-7-2) their second victory in a row and kept them tied with Long Beach for second place in the Pacific Division (16 points each). San Diego is now 2-1-0 on a season-long seven-game homestand, which continues at 5:05 p.m. today against Fresno.
Kim, who signed with the Gulls on Monday, also added an assist, as he and DaSilva have now combined for 11 points - six goals and five assists - in their three games with San Diego. DaSilva, meanwhile, has tallied four scores of his own since being assigned from Lowell (Mass.) of the American Hockey League on Tuesday.
Steve Hildenbrand and Nikita Korovkin added two assists each for the Gulls, who knocked off Stockton (4-7-2) for the first time in two tries this year.
San Diego never trailed after scoring the contest's initial three goals. But the Gulls had to hold off the Thunder, which pulled to within 4-3 late in the second period on a short-handed tally at 15:47. However, David Svagrovsky put San Diego back up by two just two minutes later to round out the scoring.
Notes: Guillaume Fournier had his career-high nine-game point streak snapped... San Diego has killed 38 of its last 49 penalties, including nine of 10 against Stockton... The two clubs combined for six goals in the second period, including three in a span of 2:09, led by Kim's tally just 11 seconds into the frame... The Gulls have scored 17 power-play goals in the last 10 games but none Saturday... They are unbeaten in eight of their last 10 games (6-2-2)... Chet Ferreira was activated from the injured list... Doug MacIver (knee) and Cody McLeod (shoulder) both remain out of the lineup...
The Gulls continue their longest homestand of the year Sunday against the first-place Fresno Falcons, with game-time set for 5:05 p.m. It will be another Kids Night, and "Skate with the Gulls" will follow immediately after the contest. San Diego will host the Johnstown Chiefs twice next weekend before closing out the homestand Friday, Dec. 9 vs. Phoenix.
