Frederick Keys News Release

FREDERICK, MD -Ofelky Peralta delivered his first quality start of the season and the Frederick Keys scored the last four runs in a 6-2 win over the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Sunday afternoon at Nymeo Field. The win ended a season-high six-game losing streak for the Keys.

After turning 21 years old on Friday, Peralta (1-1) received a belated birthday present, working six innings and allowing two runs (one earned). Hurt by high pitch counts in his first two starts, the right-hander walked only one and struck out three. The six innings also equaled a career-best.

In the sixth, the Blue Rocks (8-9) leveled the game at two following a single by Angelo Castellano, a stolen base, a sac-bunt and a sacrifice fly by Khalil Lee. The deadlock did not last long. In the bottom of the sixth, Randolph Gassaway singled to begin the inning, before Jomar Reyes grounded a ball to shortstop. Charging in, Castellano had the ball get under his glove enabling Gassaway to reach third. He scored one batter later after Jake Ring hit into a double play.

Frederick (7-11) added insurance in the seventh and eighth thanks to a pair of longballs. Cole Billingsley was the first to go long, hitting a two-run shot down the right field line, while Ring added a home run one inning later.

Wilmington got on the board first, tallying a run in the second on a Chase Vallot sac-fly, while the Keys offense got going in the fourth. Preston Palmeiro tied the game with a solo homer and consecutive errors and an RBI single by J.C. Escarra made it 2-1.

Frederick native, Branden Kline, earned the save tossing 1.1 scoreless innings. Wilmington starter, Jace Vines, also turned in a quality start but was hit with the loss, surrendering three runs (one earned) on five hits. Vines (0-4) struck out three.

Following a Monday off-day, the Keys hit the road to take on the Salem Red Sox on Tuesday night. Left-hander Alex Wells (0-1, 2.40) takes the mound for the Keys. He will be opposed by Red Sox left-hander Darwinzon Hernandez (0-2, 5.91). The Keys return to Nymeo Field on Tuesday, May 1 when the Salem Red Sox come to town.
