Frederick Keys News Release

The Wilmington Blue Rocks were off to the races Monday night. They used speed to their advantage, and beat the Frederick Keys by a final of 9-4.

Right-hander Jake Arrieta got the start for the Keys. With one man out in the top of the first, Chris McConnell walked. The Wilmington shortstop then stole second. One batter later, with two men out Joe Dickerson lined a ball to right field. The ball bounced in-and-out of Brandon Tripp's glove, allowing McConnell to score and giving the Blue Rocks a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the second, Jeff Bianchi led things off with a single. Anthony Seratelli then walked. Arrieta threw a wild pitch to move runners to second and third. Josh Johnson hit a groundout to second, scoring Bianchi and giving Wilmington a 2-0 lead. Jeff Howell then hit a sacrafice fly to give the Blue Rocks a 3-0 lead.

Derrick Robinson reached on an error to lead off the third. Arrieta then balked, allowing Robinson to advance to second. The Carolina League's leader in steals, Robinson then stole third base. On the play, catcher Matt Wieters threw the ball into left, allowing Robinson to score, and giving Wilmington a four-run lead.

Frederick rallied in the bottom half of the inning. Bobby Andrews drilled his first homer of the season to lead off the third. Later in the inning, with one on and one out, Wieters hit a two-run homer to dead-center field, his 14th of the season, making it a one-run ball game.

Seratelli led off the fourth for Wilmington with a double. He was sacraficed to third, and scored on a Jarrod Dyson infield single, to give Wilmington a 5-3 lead.

The Blue Rocks blew it open in the fifth off of Keys reliever Jeff Moore. Kurt Mertins was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. A batter latter Bianchi singled. Johnson then worked a two-out walk to load the bases. Howell was hit by a pitch, knocking in a run and making it a 6-3 ball game. The next batter, Dyson, drilled a base clearing three-run double to give Wilmington a 9-3 lead.

The Keys would score a run in the eighth on Ryan McCarthy's fourth homerun of the season, but it wasn't enough. It's the third straight loss for Frederick.

Everett Teaford got the win for Wilmington. He threw 6.2 innings, and allowed three runs, all earned, on four hits. Teaford walked two and struck out eight on the way to his fourth win of the season. Arrieta got the loss, dropping his record to 5-2.

The Keys will try and bounce back tomorrow evening against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. Baltimore Orioles left-hander Adam Loewen will be with the club and is expected to pitch as part of a rehab stint. It'll also be Guaranteed Win Tuesday at the ball park. If the Keys lose, each fans ticket will be good for a future Monday-Thursday home game. For more information, contact our box office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
