Frederick Keys News Release

FREDERICK, MD -The Frederick Keys (50-56/19-18) scored three times in the eighth inning on their way to a 5-2 victory over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (56-52/13-25) on Tuesday night at Nymeo Field. With the win, the Keys home winning streak improves to a season-high six games. In his second rehab start with the Keys, infielder Ryan Flaherty went 0-for-2 with two walks.

With the score tied at two in the eighth, the Keys scratched across three runs against Pelicans reliever Dakota Mekkes. Glynn Davis led off with a double, and the Pelicans elected to intentionally walk Chris Clare. Ademar Rifaela then pinch hit for Steve Laurino, and dunked a single into left field, plating Davis. The single was followed up with an Armando Araiza two-run double, giving the Keys a 5-2 lead. It was the first three runs that Mekkes had allowed in 15 appearances with the Pelicans, spanning 25.1 innings.

The Pelicans scored in the first inning off of Keys starter Reid Love. Connor Myers and Vimael Machin singled, and Machin moved to second on a throwing error from Jay Gonzalez. Jesse Hodges then brought in both runners with a single, making it 2-0. Love would settle in after that, however, producing a quality start. He tossed 6.2 innings, allowing just two runs on six hits while walking one and striking out two.

Frederick tied up the ballgame in the fifth. Gonzalez hit a double to left-center field, advancing Drew Turbin to third. Flaherty walked, and the bases were loaded for Randolph Gassaway. He roped a single to left field, scoring Turbin and Gonzalez and making it a 2-2 game.

Tossing 2.1 innings of scoreless relief, Tanner Chleborad (1-3) earned the win. He allowed two hits and struck out two. Mekkes (2-1) took the loss, allowing three runs on four hits in 1.2 innings while walking two and striking out two.

The Keys look for the series sweep against the Pelicans on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m. Frederick will face Pelicans right-hander Mike Rucker (3-2, 2.08). The game can be heard on 1450 AM The Source, frederickkeys.com, and the TuneIn Radio App. For tickets, fans can call the box office at 301-815-9939 or visit frederickkeys.com.
