Kinston Indians News Release
Frederick took down the K-Tribe 4-2 Friday night at Historic Grainger Stadium.
The Keys (19-14) scored three runs in the top of the third inning on five consecutive hits. After back-to-back infield hits by Steve Bumbry and Miguel Abreu, Buck Britton hit a two RBI double. After Tyler Townsend singled, Tyler Kolodny hit an RBI single. Kinston (13-20) starter Clayton Cook gave up three runs on nine hits in seven innings. Cook (2-3) took the loss, striking out five and not walking a batter.
The K-Tribe scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, when Chase Burnette hit an RBI single to drive in Bo Greenwell. Kinston would cut the Frederick lead to one when Casey Frawley led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a solo home run. It was the second home run of the season for Frawley.
Frederick scored a big insurance run in the top of the ninth inning when former East Carolina Pirate Dale Mollenhauer led off the frame with a single. After advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt, Mollenhauer attempted to steal third base. Kinston's catcher Roberto Perez delivered a throw that went wide of third base and Mollenhauer trotted home on the error. The K-Tribe got their first two base runners on thanks to an error and a walk in the bottom of the ninth inning, but could not get them home. Frederick starter Ryan O'Shea (3-1) got the win for the Keys.
Travis Turek was solid out of the bullpen for Kinston, pitching a perfect eighth inning. Francisco Jimenez gave up a hit and unearned run in the ninth inning.
The two teams clash again in Kinston Saturday night at 6:30 pm. Giovanni Soto gets the start for the K-Tribe. Don't miss the fireworks extravaganza after the game!
