Winston-Salem Dash News Release

FREDERICK, MD (AUGUST 15, 2010) - Behind a dominating pitching performance and big offensive days from some unlikely sources, the Keys beat the Dash 8-2 in the final game of their series on Sunday at Harry Grove Stadium. Frederick won the weekend set and Winston-Salem fell to 3-3 on its road trip.

Both starters pitched scoreless baseball over the first three innings. Keys right-hander Ryan O'Shea was superb, striking out eight men over the first three frames. Joe Serafin did his work on the ground, getting five groundouts in the first two innings.

The Dash (24-24, 67-51) was able to solve O'Shea in the fourth, loading the bases with nobody out on a pair of singles and a hit batsman. After O'Shea struck out Kenny Williams, Jr., Kyle Shelton hit a double to left field to score Seth Loman and Josh Phegley and make it 2-0 Winston. O'Shea was able to retire the next two batters to keep the damage to a minimum.

The Keys (24-25, 64-54) tied the game in the bottom of the fourth with a two out rally against Serafin (1-3). Miguel Abreu singled on a chopper to third baseman Jon Gilmore and moved to third on Bobby Stevens' double. Both men scored when Buck Britton smacked a hard grounder off Gilmore's glove to left field, tying the game at two.

Frederick jumped into the lead thanks to the speed of its leadoff hitter in the fifth. Kyle Hudson singled to start the inning and stole both second and third base. After Pedro Florimon walked, Ronnie Welty bounced into a 5-4-3 double play that scored Hudson from third to give the Keys a 3-2 lead.

Bobby Stevens extended the Keys' advantage in the sixth inning. He blasted a two-run home to left off Serafin to put the home team ahead by three runs. Frederick plated three more in the seventh against Leroy Hunt to push its lead to six.

Winston went 1 for 8 with runners on base over the final five innings and did not advance a man past second base in that span. The combination of Ryan Berry and Josh Dowdy pitched the last three frames for the Keys to preserve the win for O'Shea (7-7). The New Orleans native struck out a career-high 11 men over six innings, yielding two runs on five hits.

Serafin took the loss for Winston. The lefty gave up five runs on 11 hits in six innings.

The Keys were sparked offensively by their 7-8 hitters in the lineup. Stevens and Britton went a combined 6 for 8 with a home run, a double, four runs batted in, and two runs scored. Hudson and Abreu also had three hits each for Frederick, which cranked out 16 hits on the afternoon.

The Dash returns to BB&T Ballpark on Monday to start a four-game series against the Salem Red Sox. RHP Terry Doyle (5-7, 3.57) gets the start for Winston against RHP Stolmy Pimentel (7-9, 4.29). First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the audio broadcast begins at 6:45 on www.wsdash.com .
