Keudell Leads Bees in 5-0 Shutout

April 7, 2013 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Burlington Bees News Release

BURLINGTON, IA- Alex Keudell fired six scoreless innings, allowing just one hit in a 5-0 shutout, as the Burlington Bees salvaged a series split with the Clinton Lumberkings on Sunday afternoon.

The Bees picked up their first win of the season on Friday with a solid performance on the mound and did so again on Sunday with three pitchers allowing a combined three hits. Keudell got the start, while Kurt Spomer threw two scoreless innings out of the bullpen and Jairo Diaz gave the Bees one hitless frame.

Burlington got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Tyler Pike walked Kyle Johnson and he advanced to second base on a fielder's choice, stole third and then came home on a throwing error by Carlton Tanabe, who tried to catch Johnson stealing third base. It turned out that Johnson's run would be the only one that the Bees needed this afternoon.

Brennan Gowens singled to start the fifth inning, stole second base, went to third on an error and came home on a suicide squeeze by Kevin Moesquit. Two more runs came across the following inning on a two-run double by Wade Hinkle. The Bees final run was scored in the eighth inning, as Moesquit singled home Michael Bolaski.

Burlington (2-2) will host Quad Cities (4-0) beginning tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. The Bees will get their first look at Houston Astros 1st-round pick, Carlos Correa. Come see your Bees in action, since they will only be home for three more nights!
