Ken Griffey Jr. Number Celebration

August 10, 2016 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Everett AquaSox News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - On Friday, August 12, the Everett AquaSox will celebrate Ken Griffey Jr.'s storied career with the Mariners and his enshrinement into the Baseball Hall of Fame. The festivities will begin with Ken Griffey Jr. Bobbleheads being distributed to the first 1,000 fans through the gates starting at 6:00pm.

The Seattle Mariners made Ken Griffey Jr. the first member of the organization to have his number retired on August 6. In January of this year, the Mariners went one step further and announced that Griffey's number would be retired throughout the organization's entire Minor League system. The AquaSox will acknowledge this honor during Friday's game.

Everett AquaSox General Manager Danny Tetzlaff is excited to be a part of the process as he exclaimed, "We feel honored to have the chance to celebrate the career of Ken Griffey Jr, the greatest Mariner in franchise history. Even though he never played in Everett, this will ensure that no one will ever wear 24 in Everett again."

Ken Griffey Jr. is the first player in Major League Baseball history to make the Hall of Fame as a number one overall draft pick. Griffey Jr. was named to thirteen All-Star teams and slugged 630 home runs, sixth most all-time. He was voted into the Hall of Fame on his first ballot with a vote tally of 99.32 percent.
