The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Portland Winterhawks 7-2 on Saturday night in Kelowna.

The Rockets looked sharp in their pink jerseys worn in support of the Canadian Cancer Society as a part of Paint the Rink Pink night at Prospera Place. Cal Foote(3) got things started for Kelowna sneaking a point shot through traffic 47 seconds into the evening to give the Rockets an early 1-0 lead. Carsen Twarynski(4) extended the Rockets lead finishing off a breakaway at 4:31. Then at 14:47 Kole Lind notched his team leading eighth of the season on a Rockets power play and Kelowna took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.

The Winterhawks got on the board 2:39 in to the second period as Cody Glass(6) looked to have been robbed by the glove of James Porter on a cross-crease back door opportunity, but after review the play was ruled a goal. Carsen Twarynski(5) scored the Rockets second power play marker of the night with his second of the game at the 9:30 mark. Nolan Foote(3) beat Portland goaltender Shane Farkas before the period was out and Kelowna took a 5-1 lead into the final stanza.

Henri Jokiharju(5) cut into the Rockets lead 1:25 in to the third but one minute later the Rockets responded once again. Carsen Twarynski(6) completed the hat-trick on the power play to regain Kelowna's four goal lead. Leif Mattson scored on the power play for his first of the season to round out the scoring and the Rockets took it 7-2.

James Porter's record improves to 2-2-1-0 after stopping 34 of the 36 shots he faced as the two teams tied 36-36 in shots.

Kelowna's record improves to 5-5-1-1.

The Rockets enjoyed multi-point nights from Carsen Twarynski(3G), Kole Lind (1G, 3A), Kyle Topping(3A), Erik Gardiner (3A), Gordie Ballhorn(3A), Cal Foote(1G, 1A), and Leif Mattson(1G, 1A).

The pink specialty jerseys worn by the Rockets this evening were auctioned off with all proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society. All proceeds from the pink puck toss also went to the Canadian Cancer Society.

The Rockets are back at home again on Friday, October 27th when they host the Tri-City Americans at 7:05pm at Prospera Place.
