Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS -- Broadcaster Howard Kellman will call his 5,000th game with the Indianapolis Indians on Friday, June 4 when the Tribe takes on the Columbus Clippers at Victory Field at 7:15 p.m. Kellman will be honored in a ceremony prior to the start of the contest and will then sign copies of his recently released book "61 Humorous & Inspiring Lessons I Learned From Baseball" in the Hot Corner Gift Shop during the first and second innings of the game.

"Howard Kellman is one of the premier play-by-play broadcasters in baseball," says Indians' Vice President and General Manager Cal Burleson. "It has been our pleasure, and the pleasure of Indianapolis Indians fans throughout central Indiana, to have Howard calling our games. He is a dedicated professional that takes pride in providing an accurate and entertaining account of Indians Baseball."

Kellman, who joined the Indians in 1974, is in his 35th season as the "Voice of the Tribe." He has been the club's lead play-by-play announcer every season since 1974 with the exception of 1975 and 1980. He and his current radio partner, Scott McCauley, will be live at Victory Field and all the other International League venues this season calling the action of all 144 Tribe games.

"It has been a privilege and an honor to broadcast Indianapolis Indians baseball," says Kellman. "I am most thankful to Max Schumacher, to Cal Burleson, to the Indians' front office and to the fans in Indianapolis who share my passion for baseball."

Honored as Indiana's Sportscaster of the Year in 2002, Kellman also served as the lead announcer for ESPN's coverage of the Triple-A World Series from 2006-2008 while also calling many IHSAA football and basketball games on WHMB-TV 40 since 1990-91. In 2009, he was inducted into the Indiana Sports Writers & Sportscaster Association Hall Of Fame.

The New York native has also called games for the Chicago White Sox (1984) and Cleveland Cavaliers (1988-89) and began his career broadcasting St. Johns University basketball games.

Kellman, a graduate of Brooklyn College, is also an Indianapolis Indians sales representative and a highly regarded motivational speaker. He and his wife, Robin, reside in Carmel.
