Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

GENEVA, IL -- Anthony Capra pitched six shutout innings and the Kane County Cougars beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 2-0 in game two of a doubleheader at Elfstrom Stadium. Capra struck out five, allowed two hits, and didn't walk a batter for the win. Jason Christian provided some of the offense and a key defensive play to help Kane County to the win.

The Cougars (40-29) struck early. In the first inning, Rattlers starting pitcher Evan Frederickson was touched for a pair of runs. A leadoff bunt single by Christian and a sacrifice bunt by Matt Ray put Christian at second. After a passed ball on a walk to the third Cougars batter put runners at the corners, Frederickson uncorked a wild pitch to allow Christian to score the first run of the game. Later in the frame, an RBI grounder by Grant Desme made it 2-0 Kane County.

Kane County starting pitcher Anthony Capra made that lead stand through six innings. Michael Vass singled to lead off the Rattler sixth and took second on a stolen base. Juan Sanchez stepped to the plate with two outs and line a pitch that looked like it was ticketed for the left field corner. However, Christian, the starting third baseman for the West Division in the upcoming Midwest League All-Star Game, made a leaping grab to snare the liner and preserve the shutout for Capra.

Mickey Storey came on in the seventh and retired the side in order to close out the game for his ninth save.

Wisconsin's record dips back below the .500 mark to 34-35 with one game remaining in the half.

The final game of the first half of the Midwest League season is Sunday afternoon. Cody Adams (1-4, 5.06) is the scheduled starter for the Rattlers. Kane County will send Shawn Haviland (4-3, 3.59) to the mound. Game time is 1:00pm.
