Kalamazoo's Nie Named ECHL Goaltender Of The Month For October

PRINCETON, N.J. - Ryan Nie of the Kalamazoo Wings is the ECHL Goaltender of the Month for October.

The 24 year old was 3-0-0 with a goals-against average of 1.32 and a save percentage of.957 to help Kalamazoo go 6-1-0 and lead the North Division with 12 points. He led the ECHL in October in goals-against average and save percentage and was tied for second in wins.

After registering 33 saves in a 6-1 win at Reading in Kalamazoo's first ECHL game on Oct. 15 at Reading, Nie stopped 31 of 33 shots in a 3-2 overtime win against the Royals on Oct. 24 in the first ECHL game played in Michigan. He turned aside 26 shots the following night in a 6-1 win against Reading to help the K-Wings improve to 6-0-0.

He played for Cincinnati in 2008-09 and was 16-6-0 with three shutouts and a goals-against average of 2.69 in 24 regular season games and 3-2 with a shutout and a goals-against average of 2.35 in the Kelly Cup Playoffs to help the Cyclones reach the American Conference Finals. He also played for Bakersfield in 2008-09 going 6-6-2 with a goals-against average of 3.31 and for Elmira where he was 0-1-0 with a goals-against average of 5.06.

Nie played for Kalamazoo in the United Hockey League as a rookie in 2006-07 and was 20-8-4 with seven shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.02 and a save percentage of.929 in 35 regular season games and 11-6-2 with two shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.73 in the postseason to help the K-Wings reach the league finals.

Runners-Up: Chris Holt, Elmira (4-0-0, 1.74 GAA,.938 save pct.), Richard Bachman, Idaho (3-0-1, 2.45,.907 save pct.) and Alec Richards, Toledo (2-1-1, 1.93 GAA,.934 save pct.).
