Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings (21-20-4-1) earned a critical North Division victory Wednesday night, as Yann Sauve delivered the game-winner 47 seconds into overtime leading the K-Wings past the Evansville IceMen (17-27-2-3) at Wings Stadium.

A slow start by the K-Wings put them in a hole early, as the IceMen struck for two goals midway in the opening 20 minutes. Battling in front of the Kalamazoo net, Dylan Clarke (13th) scored after a failed attempt by Joel Martin to clear the puck found itself on the tape of the forward, who lit the lamp with a backhander.

Just 2:55 later, the IceMen extended their lead after the league-leader in assists, Todd Robinson (40), found Kevin Baker (15th) for redirected backdoor tally.

The K-Wings got on the board with 4:56 left in the period after Robinson took a hooking penalty. Alexandre Mallet connected for his seventh-goal of the season by burying a power-play slap shot past goaltender Paul Dainton. Kalamazoo, who scored on their first power-play of the game, finished the contest 1-for-7 with a man-advantage.

With no scoring in the middle stanza, the IceMen kept their one goal cushion heading into the third period, but that's where the defensive contest became an offensive shootout.

Pulling even 8:23 into the period, Brett Lysak found a rebound to the side of the net for his 13th goal of the season to tie the game at 3-3; however, Kalamazoo's celebration was cut short 31 seconds later by Josh Beaulieu.

Beaulieu, who is the IceMen's leading goal scorer, notched his 21st marker of the season with a high-slot wrist shot to reclaim the lead for the IceMen

Sparking a stretch of three goals in 2:10, Alexandre Grenier (2nd) found a space between the circles after puck-handling around three IceMen to record the equalizer 12:01 into the period.

Grabbing the K-Wings first lead of the night 52 seconds later, Elgin Reid (7th) utilized a screen in front of Dainton to beat the netminder over the shoulder to put Kalamazoo ahead 4-3.

Clarke (14th) netted his second of the game for the IceMen this time with a slap shot from the left circle to tie the game at 4-4 to force overtime.

Before the crowd could settle down in the extra session, Sauve sent them home happy earning his third-goal of the season with a blue-line wrister. Two of Sauve's three goals this season have come in overtime.

Friday, February 8th @ Elmira Jackals (Kalamazoo 5-Elmira 3)

Elmira, NY- Coming off a three-point (1 goal, 2 assists) effort on Wednesday, Elgin Reid remained red-hot scoring twice, including the game-winner in the Kalamazoo Wings (22-20-4-1) 5-3 victory Saturday night at the First Arena against the Elmira Jackals (24-19-2-2).

Getting off to the quick start, Alexandre Mallet (8th) redirected a Brett Lysak backdoor pass 3:20 into the game to give the K-Wings an early 1-0 lead. Also assisting on the goal was Sam Ftorek, who was playing in his 900th career contest.

Bouncing back midway in the period, Elmira tied the game at 1-1, when Kevin Harvey (5th) deflected a Cameron Cooper power-play slap shot.

Kalamazoo reclaimed the lead late in the opening period with a goal from Reid (8th). Reid's tally gave the defenseman a three-game goal and point streak. The three-game goal streak tied Reid with Nick Sirota for the longest goal streak this season by a member of the K-Wings.

Behind the strength of their power-play, the Jackals knotted the game 1:49 into the second period, with a blue line blast from Jordan Southorn (6th).

Not showing a letdown from the giving up the lead, the K-Wings responded 58 seconds later with a marker from Tyler Shelast (4th), his first goal since January 9th. John Armstrong, who earned an assist on the goal, extended his point and assist streak to seven games, both season-highs for Kalamazoo.

Aggressively killing a Wesley Myron penalty, Kalamazoo added to their lead with a shorthanded goal by Reid (9th), his second-goal of the night. The shorthanded tally was Reid's first of the season and the fourth by the K-Wings.

Trying to battle back late in the third period, Jordan Pietrus knocked in his ninth-goal of the season 17:31 into the period to bring the Jackals back to within a single goal; however, Ftorek (5th) put the game out of reach by netting an empty-netter with one-minute remaining in the game.

Saturday, February 9th @ Trenton Titans (Kalamazoo 2-Trenton 1-Overtime)

Trenton, NJ- Sam Ftorek gave the Kalamazoo Wings (23-20-4-1) a thrilling victory with a power-play goal in a 2-1 overtime finish against the Trenton Titans (19-23-4-3).

Deadlocked at 0-0 through the first 20 minutes, Kalamazoo jumped ahead 31 seconds into the second period with a redirected marker from Brett Lysak (14th). Lysak's goal gives him points in four straight games. Also extended point streaks to four games by earning assists on the tally were Aaron Clarke and Mitch Versteeg.

While the Titans could score on an extended two-man power-play in the period, their pressure continued to even strength where they were able to tie the game. Battling in front of Joel Martin, Jacob Cepis was able to glove down his own rebound and push it past Martin for his 14th goal of the season.

Martin was stellar in his 32nd consecutive start turning aside 45 saves in the victory.

Prior to the K-Wings power-play winner, the Titans had the game's best scoring chance 54 seconds into the extra session with a Andy Bohmbach penalty shot. With a chance to clinch the win, Bohmbach's wrist shot sailed wide of the net.

Moments later after being awarded a man-advantage, Kalamazoo wouldn't waste the opportunity, as Ftorek sealed the victory with his sixth-goal of the season. Five of Ftorek's goals this season have come on the power-play.

Sunday, February 10th @ Reading Royals (Reading 5-Kalamazoo 2)

Reading, PA- Led by a three-goal third period, the Reading Royals (33-12-3-3) defeated the Kalamazoo Wings (23-21-4-1) 5-2 at the Sovereign Center.

Stealing the puck at their own blue line, Sam Ftorek pushed it ahead to Alexandre Mallet (9th)for a breakaway marker 15:44 into the first period. The assist by Ftorek was his team-leading 24th of the season an extended his point streak to three games.

Reading tied the game at 1-1 with 30 seconds remaining in the period, as Nikita Kashirsky (7th) found the loose puck in front of the K-Wings net and slid it through the legs of Joel Martin.

Ftorek (7th) put the K-Wings back ahead early in the second period, scoring from a backdoor pass from Nick Sirota. The assist was Sirota's 100th of his career.

Pressuring the K-Wings all period, the Royals evened the game at 2-2 midway in the period on a tally from Ian O'Connor (16th).

Reading outshot Kalamazoo 25-10 in the second period; the 25 shots surrendered by the K-Wings are the most they have allowed in a single period this season (23 @ Elmira 02/08/13-third period).

Exploding in the third period, Stanislav Galiev responded by giving the Royals the lead for good with his 10th goal of the season.

Adding insurance, David Marshall (17th) and Galiev (11th) each added goals late in regulation to secure the three-goal victory.

For the game, the K-Wings were outshot 51-18. The 51 shots were the most surrendered in a game this season (48 Vs Elmira 01/16/13 &Vs Bakersfield 01/27/13), while the 18 shots on net was Kalamazoo's fewest in a game (Vs Fort Wayne 12/21/12).

Despite the loss, Martin turned aside 46 shots, which ties his own K-Wings ECHL team-record for saves in a single game.

The loss snapped the K-Wings overall winning streak at four games, as well as their road unbeaten streak (seven games) and road winning (five games), all season highs.

Fast Forward

The K-Wings will return home to start a brief two-game home stand on Thursday, February 14th with a 7 p.m. face-off versus the Trenton Titans during the 13th Annual Valentine's Day Pink Ice Game, presented by WKFR and SeaLandAir Travel & Apple Vacations. The K-Wings are 1-0-0-0 versus the Titans, who start the week in fourth place in the Atlantic Division.

Kalamazoo will remain at home on Friday, February 15th for a 7:30 p.m. face-off versus the Toledo Walleye during the 2nd Annual Susan G. Komen Game, presented by Consumers Energy. The K-Wings will be wearing special jerseys for both home games this week. A silent auction will start during the pink ice game and conclude on Friday, February 15th during the K-Wings-Walleye contest.

Starting a five-game road swing on Saturday, February 16th, the K-Wings will travel to the Huntington Center for a 7:05 p.m. encounter against the Walleye. The K-Wings are 5-4-0-1 against the Walleye, who start the week in second place in the North Division.

Defenseman Sam Ftorek has been a power-play specialist for the K-Wings. Ftorek, who shares the team-lead in power-play tallies, has scored five of his seven goals this season with a man-advantage.

My Favorite Martin Goaltender Joel Martin is closing in a personal milestone. Martin needs one more win to reach 200 in his career.

On the Road Again

Starting on Saturday, the K-Wings will begin a five-game road swing. The five-game road trip will be the longest this season for Kalamazoo.

Ying and Yang of Shooting

On Sunday, the K-Wings were outshot 51-18 against the Reading Royals. The 18 shots for, are a season-low for Kalamazoo, while the 51 shots surrender were the most allowed this year.

The Obscure Stat of the Week On the Thursday, the K-Wings will play the Trenton Titans in the 13th Annual St. Valentine's Day Pink Ice Game, presented by WKFR and SeaLandAir Travel & Apple Vacations. Kalamazoo is 9-3-0-0 during the annual pink ice game and have won nine straight on Valentine's Day.
