Game Rewind
Tuesday, November 20th @ Orlando Solar Bears (Kalamazoo 4-Orlando 3)
Orlando, FL- Led by keen penalty killing, which including killing a two-man advantage with three minutes left in regulation, the Kalamazoo Wings (8-7-0-0) snapped a two-game losing streak and a three-game road losing streak with a 4-3 victory at the Amway Center against the Orlando Solar Bears (8-6-2-1).
Cycling the puck on the lone power-play chance for either team in the period, Chris Lawrence (3rd) netted his first goal since going to Orlando from the San Francisco Bulls with a wrister from between the circles 14:36 into the period. In three games with the Solar Bears, Lawrence has been red-hot producing six points (1goal, 5 assists).
A fortunate bounce aided Kalamazoo in tying the game four minutes later. Standing behind the net, Steven Anthony (1st) flung a centering pass off of a Solar Bears defenseman and into the net to even the game at 1-1.
Pelting Orlando's goaltender John Curry in the second period, the K-Wings outshot the Solar Bears 17-7, with 12 of the shots occurring in the periods first five minutes. Kory Karlander (3rd) gave the K-Wings the lead with a goal from the slot 43 seconds into the period.
Needing just 33 seconds to extend their lead, Dustin Cloutier (4th) pushed Kalamazoo's cushion to two goals with a wrist shot from between the circles.
After Nick Petersen cut the K-Wings lead to a single goal with his Solar Bears' team-leading ninth goal of season late in the period, the K-Wings answered right back with a tally from Eric Kattelus (5th).
Scoring in a similar fashion to Anthony, Orlando's Kevin Baker (4th) sent a pass off the back of the leg of Joel Martin 4:54 into the third period to cap off the scoring in the game.
The victory marks the first time this season that Kalamazoo has won after surrendering the game's first goal.
Thursday, November 22nd @ Fort Wayne Komets (Fort Wayne 3-Kalamazoo 2)
Fort Wayne, IN- The Fort Wayne Komets (8-5-0-1) took the first half of a home-of-home series over the Kalamazoo Wings (8-8-0-0) with a 4-3 victory Thanksgiving Night at the Allen County Memorial Coliseum and the process leaped over the K-Wings into third place in the North Division.
A quick outlet pass became a milestone marker for Aaron Clarke. After Joe Cannata tipped the puck to Mitch Versteeg, the defenseman launched a pass up ice to Clarke (5th), who snuck past the Komets and went in unabated to record his 100th career goal 9:10 into the first period.
Beating the K-Wings down the ice just over two minutes later, Brandon Marino's initial wrap around shot was jammed past Cannata by Jean-Michel Rizk (5th) to even the game at 1-1.
Early in the second period, the K-Wings jumped back ahead with a power-play tally from Mitch Versteeg (2nd). Moments later, Versteeg's defensive partner Adam Polasek (2nd) sent a wrister over the shoulder of Kenny Reiter to push the K-Wings lead to two goals.
Showing resilience the Komets stormed back one minute after Polasek's marker with a lamp-lighter from Brandon Marino, his team-leading seventh goal of the season.
Earning a power-play equalizer midway in the period, Gabe Guentzel (1st) struck with a blue line slap shot to tie the contest at 3-3.
Grabbing their first lead of the night 1:20 into the third period was Thomas Beauregard (6th), who finished off a two-on-one to record his team-leading third game-winner of the season. Beauregard has earned four of his six goals against Kalamazoo.
Friday, November 23rd Vs Fort Wayne Komets (Kalamazoo 5-Fort Wayne 2)
Kalamazoo, MI- Taking over the game in the third period, the Kalamazoo Wings (9-8-0-0) score three unanswered to defeat the Fort Wayne Komets (8-6-0-1) Friday night at Wings Stadium.
The opening period was dominated by penalties and power play goals. Fort Wayne got the early go-ahead goal when Jean-Michael Rizk found himself all alone in the slot off a face off, and he made no mistake sliding in his sixth-goal of the campaign.
Kalamazoo would have the special teams answer when they earned a power play after Joe Charlebois took a high stick in the corner.
Recent addition, and former K-Wing, Mitch Versteeg ripped a shot from the point that was deflected by John Armstrong (2nd). Armstrong's tally tied the game 1-1 heading into the intermission.
Keeping momentum of their side early in the second period, K-Wings leading scorer Brett Lysak snapped his second longest scoring drought of the season (4 games) netting his eighth goal of the year on a rebound 2:10 into the stanza.
One of the biggest nemeses of the K-Wings evened the contest for the Komets moments later, as Thomas Beauregard (7th) blasted a one-timer over the shoulder of Joel Martin. Beauregard has scored five of his seven goals this season against Kalamazoo.
Armstrong (3rd) gave the K-Wings the lead for good 6:07 into the third period with a breakaway marker that was created by a neutral zone steal from Aaron Clarke. All three of Armstrong's goals this season have come against the Komets.
Just over two minutes later, Clarke (6th) put the game out of reach from a backdoor pass from Kory Karlander.
Capping off a stretch of three goals in 3:12, Lysak tacked on his second goal of the contest that was created with a cross rink pass from Darren Archibald.
Martin (7-5-0-0) improved his record of 4-0-0-0 against the Komets and helped the K-Wings regain third place honors in the North Division with a 37 save performance.
Sunday, November 25th Vs Toledo Walleye (Toledo 3-Kalamazoo 2)
Kalamazoo, MI- A late goal from Phil Rauch (1st) was enough to move the Toledo Walleye (11-7-0-1) into first place in the North Division with a 3-2 victory over the Kalamazoo Wings (9-9-0-0) Sunday afternoon at Wings Stadium.
In a game featuring the two least penalized teams in the ECHL, it was ironic that first goal of the game occurred on a power-play. Working the puck from behind the net, John Armstrong sent a crisp pass to the tape of Kory Karlander (4th), who rifled a wrister 7:56 into the contest. Armstrong and Karlander each extended their point streaks to four games, while Mitch Versteeg, who earned a secondary assist, pushed his point streak to three games.
Crashing the net early in the second period, Toledo evened the game at 2-2 with a rebound tally from Phil Oreskovic (1st). Racing in from the left point, Oreskovic was able to lift his stick on the initial shot from Terry Broadhurst 5:11 into the period.
With a slap shot from the left circle, Max Campbell (5th) gave the Walleye their first lead of the game 2:22 into the third period.
Bouncing back two and half minutes later, John Negrin (1st) netted the equalizer from a behind the net feed from Karlander.
After a K-Wings scoring chance ended with a broken stick from Elgin Reid, Rauch split the defense to record the game-winner.
Fast Forward
Kalamazoo will begin a three-game road trip this week starting on Friday, November 30th with a 7 p.m. face-off against the Toledo Walleye. The K-Wings are 1-2-0-0 against the division-leading Walleye.
The K-Wings will conclude the week on Saturday, December 1st with a 7:15 p.m. (CDT) encounter against the Evansville IceMen. Kalamazoo is 2-0-0-0 against Evansville, who starts the week in fifth place in the North Division.

Defenseman Mitch Versteeg begins the week on fire. Versteeg heads into Friday night on a three-game point streak.
Roster Movement
On Monday, the K-Wings received forward Stefan Schneider from the Vancouver Canucks. The Canucks also reassigned forward Darren Archibald from Kalamazoo to the Chicago Wolves.
On the Road Again
After a brief two-game home stand, the K-Wings will begin a three-game road trip this Friday night against Toledo. On the season, Kalamazoo is 3-5-0-0 away from Wings Stadium.
The Obscure Stat of the Week
The K-Wings have impressive this season in killing penalties against the Toledo Walleye. In three games this season, Kalamazoo is a perfect 14-for-14 in killing Toledo power-play chances
