Game Rewind

Wednesday, December 1st (Kalamazoo 2-Florida 5)

Kalamazoo, MI- The Florida Everblades extended their winning streak to four games, while pushing the Kalamazoo Wings losing woes to five games with a 5-2 victory at Wings Stadium on Wednesday night.

Allowing the quickest goal of the season, Kalamazoo gave up the first tally of the night 20 seconds into the period, after a turnover setup a marker from Mathew Pistilli. The goal from Pistilli ties fellow Everblade forward Alexandre Imbeault for team and league lead with 13 goals.

Unsuccessful on their first two power-play chances of the night, the third time was the charm for Florida, as Mike McKenzie (6th) deflected a David Fischer blue-line slap shot late in the period.

Midway through the second period, a delayed penalty against Kalamazoo resulted in Florida having an extra attacker on the ice. Francis Lemieux (5th) was the lucky recipient of a Mitch Fadden pass which extended the Florida lead to three.

Two minutes later, it was the K-Wings turn to get on the board. It took a five-on-three power-play coupled with a lightening wrister from Trent Daavettila (7th) right below the left circle to finally get the K-Wings rolling. The goal was Daavettila's team-tying fourth power-play goal and it also extended his point streak to five games.

The momentum did not last long for Kalamazoo, as Lemieux (6th) buried his second of the game.

Leading the Everblades against the K-Wings with five points (1goal, 4 assists) in three games entering the contest, Lemieux capped off his four-point night by netting his first hat trick of the season and the third of his career on a wrister from the right circle.

Bryan Jurynec closed out the scoring for the K-Wings earning his first of the season on a rebound with just less than three minutes remaining in the game.

Despite the three-goal setback, the K-Wings outshot the 'Blades 51-27. The 51 shots are the most this season by Kalamazoo and the most allowed by Florida.

Friday, December 3rd (Kalamazoo 5-Wheeling 6-Shootout)

Wheeling, WV- The Kalamazoo Wings erased a two-goal deficit in the waning moments of regulation, but could not get over the hump in a 6-5 shootout loss to the Wheeling Nailers at the WesBanco Arena.

A stalemate for a majority of opening period, Wheeling answered late in the period with back-to-back goals from Mikael Bedard (1st) and Ben Street (6th) 1:02 apart to take a 2-0 lead. Bedard banged in a rebound on his own shot 16:17 into the contest, while Street snuck into the slot and buried a one-timer.

Cutting the lead in half 5:11 into the second period, Brady Leisenring (2nd) spun free in front of the crease and deflected a Ryan McGinnis centering pass past Patrick Killeen.

Responding back over a minute later, Wheeling regained a two-goal cushion with a power-play marker from Sebastien Bisaillion (2nd).

However, Kalamazoo had an answer of their own in the form of McGin nis (1st, 2nd), who brought Kalamazoo back by netting two answered goals to tie the game at 3-3.McGinnis would finish the night with a game-high four points (2 goals. 2 assists)

Earning their first lead of the night, Kalamazoo jumped ahead 4-3 early in the third period with a goal from Justin Taylor (3rd).

Wheeling offered an immediate response tying the game back up with Alexander Smigelski's seventh lamp-lighter of the season.

The Nailers looked to have control of the game after a go ahead marker from Kyle Bushee (1st) gave Wheeling a 5-4 advantage with just over five minutes remaining in regulation; however, the K-Wings fought back to even with an equalizer from Trent Daavettila with 2:05 remaining in the game to force overtime. The goal extended Daavettila's point streak to six games and was his team-tying eight of the season.

No scoring in the five minute overtime forced the shootout, where the Nailers received goals from Nick Peterson and Street to outscore the K-Wings 2-0 in the extra session and escape with the 6-5 victory.

Saturday, December 4th (Kalamazoo 6-Elmira 5-Overtime)

Elmira, NY- Never leading in regulation, the words sudden victory had a double meaning for the Kalamazoo Wings Saturday at the First Arena, as the K-Wings snapped a six-game winless streak with a 6-5 overtime victory over the Elmira Jackals.

Coming into Saturday, the Jackals ranked second in the ECHL in goals scored averaging 3.75 goals a game, while having the third highest average in the league in goals allowed surrendering 3.40, so it shouldn't come to anyone's surprise that the contest featured plenty of scoring.

Cutting in from the point, Brad Miller (2nd) gave the Jackals the lead 5:17 into the contest by tipping in a cross rink pass from Tyler Donati.

Kalamazoo drew even later in the period, when Patrick Asselin (2nd) stepped around two defensemen and scored on the power-play.

Stepping into a slap shot from the right circle, R.J Anderson (1st) regained the lead for the Jackals with less than five minutes remaining in the period.

Bouncing back 45 seconds later, Asselin registered his second of the night to knot the contest at 2-2, but the deadlock was short lived, as Patrick Coulombe forged Elmira back in front with 47 seconds remaining in the period with his fifth goal of the season.

Special teams proved vital in the second period. Elmira earned their largest lead of the night with a power-play goal from Tyler Donati (1st) 3:59 into the period.

Stealing the puck in the neutral zone, Kalamazoo answered back later in the period by finishing off a three-on-one shorthanded odd-man rush with a goal from Andrew Fournier. Assisting on the goal were Ryan McGinnis and Asselin.

With the goalie pulled on a delayed penalty, the K-Wings took advantage of the extra skater by striking with the equalizer early in the third with an equalizer from Matt Duffy (1st).

Elmira kept counterpunching later in the stanza with a tally from Eric Lampe (6th) from between the circles.

With the winless streak seemed destined to be extended for Kalamazoo and the First Arena crowd of 3,933 standing on their feet in anticipation of a Jackal victory, the K-Wings abruptly silenced the building with a goal from Trent Daavettila (8th) with 3.6 seconds remaining in regulation. The goal from Daavettila, which was his team-leading ninth goal of the season and fifth on the power-play, extended his point streak to seven games.

Striking early in overtime, Asselin (4th) capped off his four-point night with his first professional hat trick.
