Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud member of the ECHL, three-time defending North Division Champions and National Hockey League affiliate to the Vancouver Canucks, and American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves announce goaltender Joel Martin has been selected as the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for January 21st -January 27th.
Fresh off the all-star break, Martin went 2-0-1-0 between the pipes for the K-Wings.
Martin made 106 saves during the week and had with a goal-against-average of 1.94 and a save percentage of 0.946.
This is the second-time this season as well as in his career that Martin has captured the ECHL's top goaltending weekly honor. Martin also received the honor for the week of December 31st-January 6th.
The native of Fort Worth, Texas started the week with a 36-save performance in a 3-1 victory last Friday against the Toledo Walleye. Martin followed that performance by stopping 25 shots in a 3-2 overtime victory against the division leading Cincinnati Cyclones. Capping off the week on Sunday, Martin stopped 45 shots in the K-Wings 3-2 overtime loss to the Bakersfield Condors.
Martin has appeared in a league-high 38 games this season, including 27 straight appearances, posting a record of 17-16-4-1 with one shutout, a 2.67 goals-against average and a save percentage of .919. The 30-year netminder is tied for second in the league wins while leading all goaltenders in minutes (2,294) minutes and saves (1,153).
With Martin capturing the weekly honor, the accomplishment marks the fifth-time since joining the ECHL (2009-10) that the K-Wings have had a goaltender claim the award.
Martin and the K-Wings will return to Wings Stadium tomorrow, Wednesday, January 30th with a 7 p.m. face-off versus the Fort Wayne Komets on a Salute to Red Solo Cup Night, featuring a Toby Keith impersonator, presented by WNWN.
Single-game tickets for the 2012-2013 season are on sale at the Wings Stadium Ticket Office. Ticket Office hours are Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday's. To charge tickets by phone, please call Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000.
Tickets for all K-Wings home games are $13 and $17.50 for adults and only $7 for kids ages 14 and under. The price for all K-Wings premium night games (all colored ice games and New Year's Eve game) are just $1 more.
Fans can save money by purchasing K-Wings single-game tickets in advance because tickets purchased on the day of a game increase by $2 (adults only).
