K-Wings Extend Regulation Unbeaten Streak to 13 with 4-1 Victory against Cincinnati

March 6, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Kalamazoo, MI- Ryan Nie made 29 saves and Andrew Fournier established himself as the ECHL's most lethal scorer in the Kalamazoo Wings 4-1 victory over the Cincinnati Cyclones at Wings Stadium.

Scoreless after the first period, it took just over seven minutes in the second stanza for either team to get onto the board. It was Kalamazoo taking a 1-0 lead on a Patrick Asselin (22nd) goal. Asselin cleaned up a rebound opportunity off a shot from AJ Thelen.

Cincinnati came back to tie the game up at the 11:15 mark of the second frame when they used their power play opportunity to find the back of the net. Jake Hauswirth (11th) screened Nie and used his stick to re-direct a slap shot from the blue line released by Cyclones defender Garrett Suter.

In the third period and working on yet another power play, Fournier tickled twine 12:21 into the stanza for the K-Wings, this time while dropping to a knee before he let it go past Cyclones goalkeeper Chet Pickard. The goal was Fournier's 33rd of the season and turned out to be his eighth game-winner of the campaign. Both lead the ECHL. Trent Daavettila tallied an assist on the goal, extending his point streak to nine games.

Just under a minute and a half elapsed before Kalamazoo found the score sheet again. Asselin got himself yet another tally, this one his 23rd of the season, giving the K-Wings a two goal lead.

Daavettila would seal the fate of Cincinnati, as he added an empty netter with 50.1 seconds remaining in regulation. The goal put to bed any comeback opportunity for the Cyclones.
