K-Wings drop seventh straight on road
December 22, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Evansville, IN- Falling into a hole early, the Kalamazoo Wings (11-14-2-1) dropped their fourth straight overall (0-3-1-0) and their seventh straight on the road (0-4-2-1) with a 4-3 setback to the Evansville IceMen (11-0-3) Saturday night at the Ford Center.
End-to-end action led to plenty of scoring in the first period. A turnover in K-Wings zone, led by an innocent wrister from Matt Schepke (1st) started the scoring for IceMen midway in the period.
Over three minutes later, Patrick Kennedy (7th) won a battle to the right of Kalamazoo's net and knocked in a Trent Vogelhuber rebound with 9:02 remaining in the period to extend Evansville's lead to 2-0.
Aaron Clarke became the third member (Eric Kattelus, Brett Lysak) of the K-Wings to reach double-digits in goals earning his 10th of the season when he redirected a Kory Karlander centering pass with 6:55 left in the opening period.
Extending their lead back to two goals late in the stanza, a poke check from Schepke created a turnover in the K-Wings zone and the forward quickly gave it to Dylan Clarke, who walked for his ninth goal of the season.
The scoring subsided in the second period, but picked up early in the third, when Jason Dale (5th) scored the eventual game-winner on a backhander.
Making it exciting late, Kalamazoo struck for two goals in a span of 12 seconds apart midway in the stanza from Alexandre Mallet (1st) and the second of the game from Clarke (11th). The goal from Mallet was his first as a professional, while Clarke's goal ties him with Lysak for the team-lead.
