June 24, 2007 - California League (CalL) - Lancaster JetHawks
(LANCASTER, CA) - The Lancaster JetHawks got the perfect blend of offense, defense, and pitching Sunday afternoon, this time taking it all out on the Bakersfield Blaze. The offense pounded out 15 more hits and Justin Masterson used his sinker to great effect over seven innings as the JetHawks defeated the Blaze 14-4 at Clear Channel Stadium. The JetHawks have now won 12 of their last 15 games, and have scored ten or more runs in four of their last five games. Their record of 42-32 puts them ten games above .500 for the first time this season.
The sinker from Justin Masterson bedeviled opponents yet again. The JetHawks ace faced the minimum number of hitters possible until the Blaze finally scored against him in the fifth. Masterson surrendered just two runs and three hits in seven innings, and did not walk a single batter. Over his last four starts, Masterson has allowed just seven earned runs and 18 hits in 25 1/3 innings with 15 strikeouts and only one walk.
The JetHawks took the lead in the first inning and never trailed. Tony Granadillo had four hits for Lancaster, while Ryan Khoury had three, including a solo homer to lead off the first inning. All nine JetHawks scored at least one run, with Christian Lara driving in three runs and Brad Correll hitting his seventh home run in seven games since joining Lancaster.
