Justin Ahrens Earns Athletic Trainer of the Year Award

Bradenton, Fla. - Bradenton Marauders Athletic Trainer Justin Ahrens has been recognized as Florida State League Athletic Trainer of the Year by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society. Ahrens. PBATS presents an annual award to one athletic trainer in each of the 16 leagues in Minor League Baseball.

Ahrens is the first Marauders athletic trainer to receive the FSL's Athletic Trainer of the Year recognition from PBATS. Ahrens is now eligible for the industrywide PBATS Minor League Athletic Trainer of the Year Award, which will be presented at the Baseball Winter Meetings this December in National Harbor, Maryland. The Minor League Athletic Trainer of the Year Award will be voted on by the full membership of PBATS.

Ahrens is in his second season as the athletic trainer for the Marauders. The 27-year-old Wisconsin native is in his fifth season overall in the Pirates organization. He spent 2013 and 2014 with the West Virginia Power after working with the Pirates' New York-Penn League affiliate in 2012. Prior to joining the Pirates, Ahrens was an assistant athletic trainer in the Dominican Republic for the Oakland Athletics in 2011. Prior to his graduation from Carroll University in 2011, Ahrens interned with the Minnesota Twins organization in 2010.

The Marauders will recognize Ahrens in an on-field ceremony prior to the 1:00 p.m. game against the Fort Myers Miracle on Sunday, August 14.
