Jupiter, FL (June 11, 2017)- The Hammerheads scored four runs in the 8 th inning to rally past the Clearwater Threshers, winning Sunday afternoon 5-3. The Hammerheads took three out of four from the North Division leaders, and have won 11 out of 14.
Jupiter was held hit-less for the first five innings before Kyle Barrett put the Hammerheads in the hit column with a single to lead off the sixth.
Jose Pujols broke a scoreless tie leading off the third with a solo homerun that made it 1-0 Clearwater. The Threshers would capitalize on two Hammerhead errors during the inning, scoring two more runs and taking a 3-0 lead.
That was all the run support Clearwater would get, as the Jupiter pitching staff would only allow three more hits for the remainder of the game.
The Hammerheads picked up their first run in the sixth, when Angel Reyes ' sac-fly brought home Kyle Barrett.
The bats came alive in the 8 th, as the team rallied to score four runs to secure the victory. Kyle Barrett led off the frame with a walk. Junior Arrojo lined out, which was followed by Reyes popping out, bringing up Dustin Geiger with two outs.
Geiger ripped a 2-1 pitch over the Left Field wall for his sixth home run of the season, tying the game at 3. The Hammerheads weren't done as John Silviano and Roy Morales walked to bring up Brad Haynal . Clearwater made a pitching change, bringing in Matt Hockenberry to face Haynal, but it wouldn't matter. Jupiter's DH swung at the first pitch he saw, knocking a two-run double down the Right Field line, putting them in the lead for good.
Eric Alonzo pitched a clean 9 th, picking up his first save off the season.
The team returns to action tomorrow night, as they'll face the Mets in St. Lucie. RHP Jeff Brigham (1-0, 2.31 ERA) will make his third start for the Hammerheads since being activated from the DL. He'll be opposed by Mets righty Justin Dunn (4-3, 4.63 ERA)
