January 28, 2013 - Canadian Football League (CFL) - Calgary Stampeders
Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that non-import defensive lineman Junior Turner has signed a contract extension. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Turner played 11 regular-season contests for Calgary in 2012 as well as the West Division semifinal, the West Division final and the Grey Cup. The Bishop\'s University product saw action both at defensive end and defensive tackle and recorded 11 tackles and one sack during the regular season.
"I\'m pleased that we\'ve come to terms with Junior on an extension," said Hufnagel. "His versatility is an asset to the team and I believe he\'s only scratched the surface of his potential. I look forward to seeing him continue to progress as he enters his third season."
Turner was selected in the second round (ninth overall) by the Stampeders in 2011 CFL Canadian Draft. In two seasons with Calgary, he\'s appeared in 29 regular-season games and accumulated 38 tackles, three sacks and one forced fumble. The 24-year-old Toronto native has also dressed in four post-season contests.
"I\'m very happy to be staying in Calgary," said Turner. "I love the city and Stampeders fans are the best in the CFL. We also have a great head coach and staff.
"Last year, we fell short of our ultimate goal, which left a sour taste in our mouths. So I\'m excited to start things up again and take another shot at reaching our goal as a team."
