ICYMI: Enderson Franco pitched through seven strong innings, Tanner Murphy hit a go ahead home run in the fifth and Chase Johnson-Mullins earned his eighth save as the Mudcats defeated the Pelicans 2-1 on Thursday night in Myrtle Beach. Franco pitched through seven full innings and allowed just one run while scattering five hits for the Mudcats in the victory. He finished with a strikeout and three walks in what was his seventh quality start of the season.

ABOUT THE LAST ONE: The Mudcats opened their second half schedule with a 2-1 victory last night against the Pelicans. The victory was Carolina's 10th in June; matching their win total in both April and May. The Mudcats have not won more than 10 games in a month so far this season... The Pelicans collected five more hits (7-2) than the Mudcats last night, but the Mudcats managed to win for the 9th time this season when being out-hit in a game by an opponent. The victory marked the largest differential in opponent's hits versus Mudcats' hits in a win this season (five hits).

STARTING OFF: Matt Withrow gets the start tonight for the Mudcats in game two of four against the Pelicans in Myrtle Beach. Withrow is 5-4 this season and pitched to a 3.45 ERA over 12 first half starts. He pitched through 6.1 scoreless his last time out versus Wilmington on 6/17 in Zebulon and finished what was his best start of the season (Game Score: 73) with eight strikeouts, two walks and only three hits allowed. Withrow is 4-0 with a 2.36 ERA over his last five starts (26.2 IP, 19 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 1 HR, 13 BB, 35 SO).

ON TO THE NEXT ONE: The Mudcats continue the start of their second half schedule tonight in Myrtle Beach with game two of a four game series against the Pelicans. Carolina finished the 2016 first half schedule at 29-41 and 14.5 games back of first half champion Salem. The Mudcats were also 7.0 games back of second place Myrtle Beach at the end of the first half. The Pelicans finished the first half at 36-34 and 7.5 games out of first. The Mudcats were 4-7 versus Myrtle Beach in the first half; including a 3-3 mark at home and a 1-4 record on the road.

WHERE THEY RANK: Matt Withrow is currently 9th in the league in earned run average (3.45). Withrow is also tied for 1st among qualified starters in average against (.210) and 4th in highest SO/9ip ratio (9.42)... Chase Johnson-Mullins and Evan Phillips are tied for 2nd in the league in saves (8). Johnson-Mullins is also tied for 2nd in games (22) and tied for 3rd in games finished (14). Phillips is also 2nd in games finished (16)... Braxton Davidson is 3rd in the league in most strikeouts (83)... Jordan Edgerton is 4th in most strikeouts (80) in the league... Starter Max Povse is currently 2nd in the Carolina League in strikeouts (76) and 5th in lowest BB-IBB/9ip ratio (1.82)... Ryan Clark leads the league in most losses (9), most HR allowed (12) and most R/ER runs (55/48) allowed.

LOCAL ALL-STARS: Cary's Max Povse and Evan Phillips combined to allow all four California League runs in a 6-4 Carolina League victory in the 2016 Carolina-California League All-Star game in Lake Elsinore, CA on 6/21 in Southern California... Povse pitched the fourth and allowed one run and one hit over one full inning pitched. Lancaster's Bobby Boyd started the fourth with a pop up that was lost in the night sky by Lynchburg's Greg Allen and turned into a triple... Phillips pitched the beginning of the ninth and allowed three runs and three hits over 0.1 innings before leaving the game. He left with two runners on and struck out the last batter he faced.

ROSTER UPDATE: The Atlanta Braves announced several player transactions yesterday with six affecting the Carolina Mudcats active roster. The transactions included the transfer of Joseph Odom and Joey Meneses from the Mudcats to the Mississippi Braves, the transfer of Ryan Lawlor to the Mudcats from the Danville Braves and the assignment of free agents Jose Fernandez and Isaias Tejeda to the Mudcats. Lawlor was also placed on the Carolina disabled list.

LINEUP BREAKDOWN: The top three batters in Carolina's lineup have combined to hit .252 (206 hits) with 86 RBI this season. The top three have also scored 113 of Carolina's 280 total runs this season. The middle three (four, five and six) hitters have combined to hit .242 (186 hits) with 84 runs and 97 RBI this season. The bottom third is batting .223 (154 hits) with 82 runs and 62 RBI.
