Lancaster JetHawks News Release

LANCASTER,Calif. - Palmdale native Mylz Jones launched his first home run of the season and Colin Welmon tossed six strong innings to lead the JetHawks over the San Jose Giants, 9-7, on Thursday night at The Hangar.

The win in the rubber game clinched the first series win for the JetHawks in 2017. They had to stave off a late San Jose rally, as the Giants scored six runs over the final four frames, including two in the ninth.

San Jose had the tying run at the plate with two out, but Salvador Justo induced a pop out off the bat of Gio Brusa to end the game. Brusa homered earlier for his second long ball in as many nights. Six of the seven runs for the Giants came on four home runs.

Trailing 1-0 heading into the bottom of the third, the JetHawks scored twice and took a lead they would not relinquish. Both runs came on Forrest Wall's RBI single. They added four more in the fourth inning to break the game open, highlighted by Jones's two-run blast. Jones has at least one hit in all five games he has played in this season.

Colin Welmon (1-0) earned the win in his second start of the season for Lancaster. The right-hander allowed just two solo homers in his six innings of work. Mark Reyes (0-1) suffered the loss for San Jose, allowing six earned runs in just four and two-thirds innings on the hill.

The JetHawks stole six bases in the contest, pushing their league-leading total to 18. Wes Rogers swiped three and Chris Rabago added a pair. Rogers also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk, double, and a run scored. Jones and Roberto Ramos also had two hits for the JetHawks.

The JetHawks hit the road for the first time this season on Thursday night, when they open a three-game series in Modesto, the previous California League affiliate of the Rockies.

Right-hander Peter Lambert (0-1) will start for Lancaster. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.

The JetHawks are in their first season as a Colorado Rockies affiliate. Full Season, Hawks Packs and Group Tickets are available now at jethawks.com, or by calling (661) 726-5400.
