San Jose, CA - San Jose Giants infielder Jonah Arenado has been named California League Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending on May 15. Arenado's power surge last week produced seven extra base hits, including three home runs to bring him within one of team leader, Chris Shaw.
In six total games last week, Arenado hit .346 (9-for-26) with four doubles, three home runs, six RBIs and eight runs. He also homered in back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday against the Modesto Nuts at Municipal Stadium.
Arenado was the San Francisco Giants 16th round draft pick in 2013. In 30 games this season for the San Jose Giants, he has hit .263 with 5 doubles, six home runs and 15 RBIs. Arenado is the first San Jose Giant to receive Offensive Player of the Week honors in 2016.
The San Jose Giants embark on a season-long road trip from May 15 - May 28 before returning home for an action-packed 10-day, 11-game homestand on Sunday, May 29. The homestand will feature daytime baseball that Sunday as well as Monday, May 30 in honor of Memorial Day. Then, the organization is offering complimentary tickets for the team's rescheduled doubleheader on Tuesday, May 31 against the Lancaster JetHawks. The games are being made up from the opening homestand's postponement due to inclement weather.
