Johnson Recalled to Chicago, Sanchez Optioned to Charlotte

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- Right-handed pitcher Erik Johnson, who has compiled a 2-1 record with a 3.57 ERA with the Knights in six games this season (35.1 IP), was recalled by the Chicago White Sox today. To make room for Johnson in Chicago, infielder Carlos Sanchez was optioned to Charlotte (Report TBD). Charlotte's roster currently consists of 24 active players.

Johnson is scheduled to start game two of Chicago's straight doubleheader vs. Cleveland tonight. This is his third promotion to Chicago this season as he was also recalled by the White Sox on April 19 and May 5. He made one start with the White Sox (May 5) and took the loss after allowing four runs on eight hits over five innings. The 26-year-old hurler was the International League's Most Valuable Pitcher last season after leading the IL in ERA (2.37) and strikeouts (136). Johnson was originally drafted by the White Sox in the second round of the June 2011 First-Year Player Draft.

Sanchez appeared in 11 games with the White Sox this season and hit .154 (4-for-26). The Venezuelan native began the season with the Knights and is hitting .309 (25-for-81) in 20 games for the club.

After an off day today, the Knights will make the trek out to Syracuse, NY to open a three-game series against the Syracuse Chiefs on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. Pre-game radio coverage begins at 6:20 p.m. on Tuesday on ESPN 730 AM and CharlotteKnights.com. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action. The Knights return home to BB&T Ballpark on Monday, May 30 to open a seven-game homestand.
