Joey Tavernese Named to MASL Team of the Week

Joey Tavernese has been named to the MASL Team of the Week for Week Eight. He lead Syracuse with three goals and an assist in an 8-5 win over Harrisburg on Friday.
"This is a much deserved award for Joey heading into the holiday break," said Silver Knights Head Coach Ryan Hall. "He is one of the more consistent players in both his offensive and defense production. His three goals against Harrisburg are a product of his work rate and knowledge of the game."
Tavernese scored the last three Silver Knights goals against the Heat to secure victory on Friday. All of his goals came in the second half. The forward also recorded an assist on Darren Toby's goal in the first quarter.
Friday's game was the fourth time this season that Tavernese recorded a multi-goal game this season. However, this is the first time this year that the forward had recorded a hat trick. The last time Tavernese scored three or more goals in a game was back on January 6th, 2017. He scored four times and added an assist in an 11-7 victory for Syracuse over Harrisburg.
Tavernese jumped to the top of the Silver Knight's stat chart after his performance on Friday. The Queens, New York native now leads Syracuse in goals (10) and points (17). He is also tied with Slavisa Ubiparipovic for the team lead in assists with seven.
This marks the third time this season that a Silver Knight has been named to the MASL Team of the Week. Ubiparipovic was named to the Team of the Week in Week Two. The Bosnian scored three goals and recorded three assists in a two-game week for Syracuse. Kenardo Forbes was also named to the Team of the Week in Week Six. He recorded a hat trick against Florida to lead Syracuse to victory 6-5 over the Tropics.
Tavernese and the Silver Knights are back in action on December 29th. The Heat travel up to the OnCenter War Memorial Arena looking for revenge after Friday's defeat to Syracuse.
