JJ Shimko Named Player of the Week

JJ Shimko (University of South Carolina Upstate) has been named the PGCBL Player of the Week for Week 2 of the PGCBL season.

In the past 7 days, the Dutchmen have played 4 games. During that time, Shimko has batted .538 with 4 RBIs. Shimko also recorded a .684 on-base percentage and a .692 slugging percentage in that time frame. The highlight of Shimko's week came at Saugerties on Friday, June 10th, where he went 3-4 with 2 RBIs and a run scored.

During the past week, Shimko led the Dutchmen in hits (7), runs scored (5), RBIs (4), and walks (5). He also added 1 stolen base, tying him for the league lead with 7 stolen bases on the season.

So far this season, Shimko leads all qualified Dutchmen batters with a .357 batting average. His .426 on-base percentage is also good for 2nd on the team, only trailing the .560 OBP of Mychael Goudreau (Azusa Pacific University). Shimko also ranks 2nd for Dutchmen in the RBI department, behind the 8 RBIs of Justin Childers (Ohio Dominican University). Finally, Shimko has 8 walks on the season, tying him with Cole Malloy (Butler University) for the Dutchmen lead.

You can catch JJ Shimko and the Dutchmen at Bob Bellizzi Field tonight, June 13th, as Albany takes on the Victor RailRiders. All kids under 12 eat for free with paid admission into the ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. If you cannot make it to tonight's game, the Dutchmen will be home on Thursday, June 16th, when they host the Utica Blue Sox. That night is Bacon Night, as the concession stand will be offering bacon concession specials. Thursday also features the All You Can Eat for $10 special. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
