Jimenez's Late RBI Extends Bisons' Win Streak

May 10, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release

For the second straight night, the Buffalo Bisons scored in the first inning and the last to beat the Durham Bulls.

A.J. Jimenez came through for the Herd with the clutch, ninth-inning single for the 2-1 victory at Durham Bulls Athletic Park Tuesday night. Jimenez's grounder off of reliever Mark Sappington had just enough on it to elude the glove of Nick Franklin and make its way into right field.

Junior Lake broke from second base and slid home just ahead of the throw from Richie Shaffer to score the winning run. Lake had singled to lead off the inning and moved up to second base on a wild pitch delivered by Adam Kolarek.

The Herd's only other run came on the third pitch of the ball game.

Leading off the evening, Dalton Pompey turned around a 95 MPH fastball from Blake Snell and sent it over the "Blue Monster" in left field to open the scoring.

Drew Hutchison continues to pitch well on the road for the Bisons.

No. 36 struck out six Bulls across six innings of work, allowing five hits while surrendering one run. The right-hander threw a season-high 105 pitches and ended his night with a bases-loaded strikeout from Patrick Leonard in the bottom of the sixth.

However, the Floridian remains a victim of poor run support. In seven starts with the Bisons this year, Hutchison has only factored into one decision.

Snell, the Tampa Bay Rays' top pitching prospect, was equal to his mound counterpart. The hard-throwing lefty also gave up a lone score, striking out seven batters in 5.1 innings of work.

Pat Venditte earned his second win of the season. The ambidextrous pitcher threw two full frames and punched out three batters.

Dustin Antolin picked up the save, thanks to some help from his batterymate. The Hawaiin gave up an infield single to the leadoff batter, Patrick Leonard, to start the ninth. Leonard was then erased on a failed hit-and-run as Jimenez gunned him out second.

Antolin then struck out Mayo Acosta and, after a walk to Jaff Decker, induced a ground ball to short from Daniel Robertson to end the game.

BISONS NOTES:

Drew Hutchison now has 36 strikeouts this season, moving him one ahead of Wade LeBlanc for the team lead...Casey Kotchman's two singles gives him nine multi-hit games in 2016, tying him for first on the roster with Jesus Montero...Buffalo improves to 4-1 when tied after eight innings...The four-game win streak is the Bisons' first since winning five in a row from July 22-26 last season.
