Lancaster JetHawks News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Tyler Heineman went 3-for-5 with a home run but the JetHawks dropped their third straight in a 10-7 loss to the Bakersfield Blaze on Sunday at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

Starter Kyle Hallock (4-2) struggled out of the gate, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits in the first inning. Junior Arias hit his first Cal League home run on the first pitch he saw and Juan Duran later added a two-run home run.

The runs kept coming against Hallock in the second inning. Steve Selsky tripled in a run and then scored on Duran's single. Hallock was removed after throwing just 1 1/3 innings. He allowed seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits.

The JetHawks got back in the game in the third inning. M.P. Cokinos hit a double to score Joe Sclafani and Nolan Fontana, both of whom reached on singles, and Heineman followed it up with a home run, his ninth of the season.

Bakersfield pulled away with three more runs in the fourth inning off reliever Cameron Lamb. Selsky singled in a run and David Vidal doubled in two.

Mike Hauschild threw four scoreless innings of relief for Lancaster but the offense was unable to put another run across until the eighth and ninth innings.

Chris Epps walked to lead off the eighth, moved to second when Matt Duffy was hit by a pitch and scored on a Sclafani single.

With two outs in the ninth, Heineman singled and Brandon Meredith and Epps each drew walks against reliver Kyle Lotzkar to load the bases. The Blaze went to closer Pat Doyle who gave up a two-run single to Duffy before retiring Sclafani on a game-ending fly ball. Doyle picked up his fifth save.

Blaze starter Mike Dennhardt (6-7) picked up the victory. He allowed four runs on six hits over five innings.

The JetHawks (19-12, 58-43) will look to avoid a sweep against the Blaze (10-21, 39-62) on Monday night at 7:45 p.m. in Bakersfield. David Rollins will start for the JetHawks.
