Lancaster JetHawks News Release
ADELANTO, Calif. - Drew Ferguson hit his first home run of the season and drove in three, but High Desert's five-run fourth inning was the difference, as the Mavericks completed a sweep of the JetHawks with an 8-4 win on Sunday afternoon at Heritage Field.
Ferguson got the scoring started with an RBI single in the third to bring in Bobby Boyd from second base. Boyd had two hits, two runs scored, and a pair of stolen bases in the game. The Mavericks came back right away with two runs in the bottom of the inning on Luke Tendler's two-run homer and took the lead for good.
Tripp Martin hit a two-run shot of his own to highlight High Desert's five-run fourth. Tendler chipped in with a two-run triple and Juremi Profar delivered an RBI double.
The JetHawks got back into the game with a three-run fifth inning. Ferguson provided the biggest swing of the frame with a two-run homer to left.
Scott Weathersby (0-2) started for Lancaster and took the loss, allowing six hits and seven runs in 3.2 innings. Brock Dykxhoorn was solid in relief, with four strikeouts over 4.1 innings. Joe Filomeno (1-0) picked up the win out of the High Desert bullpen and David Perez earned a three-inning save, his first of the season.
The JetHawks (5-10) are now five games under .500 for the first time since they were 9-14 in 2012. High Desert (14-4) has won eight in a row and has the best record in the California League.
Following an off-day tomorrow, the JetHawks return home to host the Bakersfield Blaze on Tuesday night at The Hangar. Evan Grills (1-0) will start for Lancaster against Tyler Pike (0-1). First pitch is at 6:35 p.m.
