Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - The JetHawks won their fourth straight game with a 7-1 victory over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Sunday at The Hangar.
Soon after the game, the Inland Empire 66ers fell to the High Desert Mavericks to give the JetHawks the second half title.
Lancaster took advantage of three Rancho Cucamonga errors to take an early lead. After a dropped foul ball pop up, Tyler Heineman singled to begin a rally in the second inning against starter Jon Michael Redding (4-5). Heineman would come around to score on a Chris Epps single and Delino DeShields followed with a single to score Epps.
In the third, Andrew Aplin reached on a one-out error and moved up on a Brandon Meredith single before they both scored on a Heineman double. Epps and DeShields would pick up RBIs later in the inning to extend the lead to 6-1.
DeShields was hit by a pitch in with two outs in the fifth and Nolan Fontana followed with a double to drive him home.
The runs were plenty for Colton Cain (3-0) who tossed a career-high 7 2/3 innings. He allowed just one run in the second inning and shut the Quakes down the rest of the way. Cain allowed eight hits and struck out five.
Kenny Long tossed the final 1 1/3 innings to finish the game.
Delino DeShields extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a 2-for-3 night. He reached base four times.
The JetHawks (78-54, 39-23) will go for a four-game sweep of the Quakes (60-72, 29-33) on Monday night at The Hangar. Vincent Velasquez will start for Lancaster. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
Fans who donate any new or gently used school supplies at the box office will receive free admission to the game as part of Make A Difference Monday.
