Speedy Outfielder Kanaby Released by Dodgers
MIDLAND, MI - The Great Lakes Loons, in cooperation with the Los Angeles Dodgers, have announced the addition of Jerry Sands, an outfielder, to the Loons' active roster. To make room for Sands, the Dodgers granted outfielder Erik Kanaby his release.
Sands attended Catawba College in North Carolina and makes his off-season home in Clayton, NC. He was drafted by the Dodgers in the 25th round of last year's amateur draft. He spent 2008 with the Gulf Coast League Dodgers, where he tied for second in the league with 10 home runs. He hit .205 with 33 RBIs. He joins the Loons after spending time in Glendale, AZ in Dodgers' extended spring training.
Kanaby was hitting .143 this year with the Loons with a double, 5 RBIs and one stolen base. Last year with Great Lakes, Kanaby hit .272 with 26 stolen bases.
Sands will wear No. 43. Also announced today, Bobby Blevins will switch uniform numbers from No. 40 to No. 16.
The Loons' latest roster is attached to this release.
